The iPhone Fold is apparently nearing its market launch. New leaks suggest that Apple's first foldable iPhone has reached a crucial stage of development. According to current information, the display, the most important component of a foldable smartphone, is on the verge of mass production.

Apple has reportedly been working on a foldable iPhone for years. Unlike many other manufacturers, however, the company has taken its time. The main reason is likely a technical problem that still plagues many foldable smartphones today: the visible crease in the display.

Apple reportedly postponed the introduction of a foldable iPhone until a virtually crease-free display was possible. New information suggests that this goal has now been achieved.

The iPhone Fold display is expected to go into production in May

Leaker Instant Digital has published an update on the development of the iPhone Fold. According to the report, the device's display panels are expected to enter mass production in May. The displays will reportedly be supplied by Samsung.

The start of production of a key component is considered an important step before the manufacturing of the entire device. The display plays a particularly crucial role in the iPhone Fold, as Apple aims for a design that is as crease-free as possible.

Series production of the device is expected in July

Last month, Instant Digital reported that mass production of the full iPhone Fold was scheduled to begin in July.

The process would be typical for smartphone production: First, important components such as displays are manufactured, then the production of the entire device begins.

If this timeline is adhered to, Apple could officially unveil the foldable iPhone a few months later.

Samsung's new foldable display technology

Samsung already offered a possible preview of the technology in January at CES, where the company presented a prototype of its latest generation of foldable displays.

These displays are designed to significantly reduce or even eliminate visible creases. The prototype demonstrated how much foldable displays have evolved since the first devices.

Samsung's first foldable smartphone appeared seven years ago. Since then, there have been repeated indications that Apple is also working on this technology.

Software and further details

In addition to the hardware, Apple is apparently also working on the corresponding software. According to a Bloomberg report, iOS 27 will include new features specifically designed for foldable devices.

These include iPad-like app features designed to better utilize the larger display when unfolded. Other reports also mention potential RAM and storage options, as well as an expected premium price for the iPhone Fold.

iPhone Fold: Important production phase is about to begin

Recent leaks indicate that the iPhone Fold has apparently reached a significant development milestone. The potential start of mass display production in May and the planned start of mass production in July suggest that Apple is getting closer to its first foldable smartphone.

The anticipated crease-free display could play a key role. If the timeline holds true, the iPhone Fold could be officially unveiled in September. (Image: Shutterstock / Karlis Dambrans)
