Apple is apparently still working on a new smart home device, internally codenamed Apple "HomePad". The device is intended to serve as a central control hub for the connected home, bundling multiple functions into a single system.
New information comes from the well-known leaker and prototype collector Kosutami. According to him, one of the prototypes offers, among other things, a magnetic wall mount similar to MagSafe, possible integration with a doorbell, and a strong reliance on Apple Intelligence.
Apple has reportedly been working on this device for several years. The goal is apparently a smart home display that serves as a central hub for various household tasks. These include controlling smart home products, media playback, video calls, and accessing information such as weather or calendar events.
The HomePad would thus combine several functions that are currently distributed across different devices, while simultaneously being more strongly integrated into the Apple ecosystem.
Features and specifications of the Apple HomePad
According to current information, the Apple HomePad will be equipped with a square 7-inch display. This display could show information such as weather data, calendar appointments, or smart home status, and simultaneously be used for media control or video calls.
Furthermore, the device is said to have a front camera, primarily intended for video telephony.
An interesting detail is the magnetic wall mount, which, according to the leak, is supposed to work similarly to Apple's MagSafe system. This would allow the device to be easily attached to a mount and quickly removed when needed.
Kosutami also mentioned integration with a doorbell. The HomePad could then display when someone rings the doorbell and possibly also support video display.
Apple Intelligence, Apple's new AI technology, also plays a central role. The device is said to rely heavily on this platform, thereby enabling intelligent functions and automated processes in the smart home.
Delayed release and possible market launch
The Apple HomePad was originally expected to be released in early 2025. However, due to delays in the development of Apple Intelligence and Siri, the release date was initially postponed to early 2026.
According to Kosutami, a release is now expected in the fall of 2026. This period between September and December is traditionally an important phase for new Apple products.
The HomePad could therefore be unveiled alongside other devices, such as the iPhone 18 Pro in September or redesigned MacBook Pro models in October.
Apple HomePad: Features, specifications and planned release
The Apple HomePad is intended to serve as a central control hub for the smart home, combining functions such as media playback, video calls, and information displays. According to recent leaks, planned features include a 7-inch display, a front-facing camera, magnetic wall mounting, and potential doorbell integration.
Even though "HomePad" is currently just an internal name, there are strong indications that Apple intends to significantly expand its smart home ecosystem with this device. After several delays, a release is now expected in the fall of 2026. (Image: Shutterstock / Andrew Angelov)
