Apple is continuing to work on a new device for the connected home. Rumors about an Apple Home Hub, intended to serve as a control center for Apple Home, have been circulating for some time. The product has not yet been officially confirmed. However, a new leak suggests that Apple could launch the device in the fall of 2026.
The Home Hub is intended to serve as a central device in the home, bringing together smart home functions, widgets, and, in the future, Apple Intelligence. This could significantly expand Apple's smart home strategy.
The Apple ecosystem already offers several home products, such as the HomePod and Apple TV. However, a device specifically designed as a central control unit for Apple Home has been missing. This is precisely where the Apple Home Hub comes in.
Rumors suggest it's an affordable, tablet-like device that can be used around the home to centralize smart home devices, widgets, and status information. Unlike an iPad, it wouldn't be a personal device, but rather a shared control center for the household.
Leak suggests release in autumn 2026
The latest tip comes from Apple leaker Kosutami, who is primarily known for images of prototypes and unreleased Apple components. He posted a short message on social media:
Autumn. Home. Integrated with Pad. Now coming.
He later added to the post:
Clearance: HomePad at Fall.
The term "HomePad" most likely refers to the device commonly known as the Apple Home Hub. Whether this information comes from the supply chain or is an estimate is currently unclear.
What is known about the Apple HomeHub
Previous reports describe the Apple Home Hub as a portable device with a display, primarily intended for controlling Apple Home. The focus is on widgets, smart home controls, and status indicators.
The device should be flexible for use within the house and offer quick access to important functions, such as lighting, device management or security features.
Apple is apparently planning more smart home hardware
The Home Hub could be part of a larger strategy. Reports indicate that Apple is planning several new devices for the connected home. These include, among others:
- a smart doorbell
- Security cameras
- other devices related to Apple Home
The HomeHub could serve as a central control system for this ecosystem.
Possible delay due to Apple Intelligence
The market launch was originally planned for 2025. However, that date has passed. Rumors suggest the delay is related to a revised AI strategy by Apple.
This concerns a new version of Apple Intelligence based on so-called Apple Foundation Models. Reports indicate that these models were partially trained using technologies related to Google Gemini.
A potential relaunch of this AI platform could take place as early as April. Should Apple present its AI features first, the Home Hub could follow.
Rumors about a second generation with an AI focus
Besides the first model, there is already speculation about a second generation of the HomeHub. This device could be more focused on artificial intelligence and function as an AI hub for the smart home.
One particularly unusual rumor concerns a robotic arm that could be attached to the device. This arm would automatically orient the display towards the user and interact with a kind of personality.
How reliable is the leaker?
Kosutami has a relatively short but decidedly mixed leak record. Several of his tips proved to be correct, including:
- the FineWoven bands of the Apple Watch
- the USB-C port in the iPhone 15
- the launch of the iPad mini 7 in autumn 2024
- References to graphs on heat dissipation in the iPhone 16
However, a bigger mistake concerned the Apple Watch's ports, which he claimed were supposed to change in 2024. This change has not happened to this day.
However, other sources also reported on possible new connectors at the time. It is therefore possible that Apple tested such variants but did not release them.
Further evidence from prototype leaks
Kosutami also showed black components of the Apple Vision Pro, which could belong to a more affordable model. He refers to this model as "Air".
Furthermore, an image of a large glass cover for a HomePod with a display has surfaced several times. The design suggested an upward-facing display. However, this product has also not yet been officially unveiled.
Apple HomeHub could play a central role in Apple Home
The Apple Home Hub remains one of the most interesting unconfirmed Apple products. The latest leak suggests fall 2026 as a possible launch date, after the originally anticipated 2025 launch was apparently postponed.
Along with new smart home devices and greater integration of Apple Intelligence, Apple could significantly expand its home ecosystem. Whether the current rumors are true will only become clear when Apple officially announces its next products. (Image: Shutterstock / John Brueske)
