The MacBook Neo could be officially announced as early as tomorrow. According to recent reports, Apple is planning to unveil a new, more affordable MacBook model. The name "MacBook Neo" suggests a completely new product category. Most notably, the device may not be equipped with a traditional M-series chip, but rather with an iPhone processor.
The whole thing started with a report from MacRumors. According to the report, Apple accidentally published a document listing a previously unannounced "MacBook Neo (Model A3404)." Shortly afterward, the document was no longer available online.
This internal designation alone is remarkable. While Apple has used the name "MacBook" in the past, "MacBook Neo" would represent a new brand line. The "Neo" suffix suggests a clear repositioning within the Mac portfolio.
It's also interesting to note that Apple recently introduced another product with the "Neo" suffix: the new Hermès Néo Tricot Apple Watch band. It's priced at €349, roughly half the expected price of the MacBook Neo.
MacBook Neo as a new entry-level model
The main rumor concerns the hardware. The MacBook Neo is said to be equipped with the A18 Pro chip, an iPhone processor. If this is confirmed, it would be the first MacBook not based on an M-series chip, but on a chip from the iPhone line.
Such a move would clearly position the device below existing models, such as the current MacBook Air. At the same time, using an iPhone chip could reduce production costs and thus allow for a lower selling price.
The name "Neo" could also indicate that the device is lighter than the MacBook Air. While official technical details are not yet available, the name suggests a corresponding positioning.
Performance apparently imminent
Apple has announced a personal media "experience" for tomorrow at 3:00 PM CET. In recent days, the company has already unveiled several new products at 3:00 PM CET. On Monday and Tuesday, the following products were among those presented:
- the iPhone 17e
- the iPad Air
- the MacBook Air
- the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips
- the MacBook Pro
- the new Apple Studio Display
- as well as the Studio Display XDR
Against this background, it is considered likely that Apple will also officially announce the MacBook Neo at this media event.
Significance for Apple's product strategy
With the MacBook Neo, Apple would be offering, for the first time, a notebook clearly priced below the MacBook Air. A more affordable MacBook with an iPhone chip could attract new target groups, particularly in the education sector or the entry-level segment.
At the same time, Apple would clearly differentiate between high-performance M-chip models and a more cost-effective A-chip model. The MacBook Neo would thus open a new category within the Mac family.

MacBook Neo as a new entry point into the Mac world
The MacBook Neo could represent a strategically important addition to the Mac portfolio. The evidence is mounting: an accidentally published document titled "MacBook Neo (Model A3404)," an imminent media event, and a number of recent product releases.
Official confirmation is still pending. However, should Apple actually unveil the MacBook Neo, the company would be offering a MacBook with an iPhone chip for the first time, while simultaneously creating a more affordable entry point into the Mac world. (Image: Shutterstock / DVKi)
