Apple is expanding its display portfolio with the introduction of a new Studio Display family, designed for both everyday users and professionals. The new Studio Display and Studio Display XDR are two monitors specifically engineered for the Mac, combining advanced display technology with powerful camera, audio, and connectivity features. This new generation aims to enhance professional workflows while providing a flexible solution for office, home office, and creative projects.
With the introduction of the new Studio Display family, Apple underscores its commitment to developing industry-leading displays for professionals. John Ternus, Apple's senior vice president of hardware engineering, emphasizes that Apple is once again delivering the world's most advanced displays for professional users.
The Studio Display gets a new 12MP center-stage camera and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity. The Studio Display XDR goes even further, offering mini-LED backlighting, 2000 nits of HDR peak brightness, enhanced color accuracy, and a 120Hz refresh rate. According to Apple, it's the world's best professional display.
Studio Display – designed for Mac
The new studio display combines high-quality image display with integrated communication and audio technology. It is suitable for photo and video editing, programming, music production, and everyday tasks.
27-inch 5K Retina display
The Studio Display offers:
- 27-inch screen diagonal
- 5120 × 2880 pixel resolution (over 14 million pixels)
- 600 nits brightness
- Support for the P3 color space
The high resolution ensures sharp details, while the P3 color space enables true-to-life and vibrant colors.

Camera with Center Stage and Desk View
The display features an integrated 12-megapixel camera with Center Stage. This function automatically keeps the person in the frame as they move. Additionally, the display supports Desk View, which simultaneously shows a top-down view of the desk. This is particularly helpful for presentations or creative demonstrations.
Microphones and sound system
The Studio Display features:
- A microphone array with three studio-quality microphones
- Directional beamforming
- A sound system with six speakers
- Four force-cancelling woofers with 30 percent deeper bass than the previous generation
- Two powerful tweeters
- Support for spatial audio
This equipment enables high-quality video calls and powerful sound for media and music.
Thunderbolt 5 and connectivity options
The Studio Display offers:
- Two Thunderbolt 5 ports
- Two USB-C ports
Up to four Studio Displays can be daisy-chained, resulting in a total resolution of nearly 60 million pixels. The included Thunderbolt 5 Pro cable provides up to 96 watts of charging power, enough to quickly charge a 14-inch MacBook Pro, for example.
Glass options and stand
The Studio Display is available with:
- Standard glass
- Optional nano-textured glass for challenging lighting conditions
The following stand options are available:
- Tiltable stand
- Optional tilt and height adjustable stand
- Optional VESA mounting adapter
The starting price is 1,699 euros.
Studio Display XDR – Focus on professional peak performance
The Studio Display XDR is clearly aimed at professional users with high demands on brightness, contrast, and color accuracy. It replaces the previous Pro Display XDR.
5K Retina XDR with Mini-LED
Display specifications:
- 27 inches
- 5120 × 2880 pixels
- Mini LED backlight
- 2,304 local dimming zones
- Up to 1000 nits SDR brightness
- 2000 nits HDR peak brightness
- Contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1
The wide dynamic range enables very bright whites and deep blacks. At the same time, halo and blooming effects are reduced.
Enhanced color support
The Studio Display XDR supports:
- P3 color space
- Adobe RGB
- Over 80 percent of Rec. 2020
P3 and Adobe RGB are accessible via the same default setting. This simplifies professional workflows that regularly switch between color spaces, such as in print projects or HDR video editing.

120 Hz and Adaptive Sync
The display offers a refresh rate of 120 Hz. This makes movements appear smoother and more responsive.
Adaptive Sync enables a continuously adjustable refresh rate between 47 Hz and 120 Hz. This results in smoother video playback, graphics-intensive applications, and games, and reduces latency.
DICOM and medical imaging
Apple is integrating new DICOM presets and a Medical Imaging Calibrator into macOS. This allows the Studio Display XDR to be used in diagnostic radiology.
Many medical professionals already use Macs in their work environment or at home. The display offers a flexible alternative to specialized medical monitors. The Medical Imaging Calibrator is currently awaiting FDA approval and is expected to be available in the US soon.
Apple has been working with healthcare professionals and developers for decades to develop solutions that improve patient care and efficiency in the healthcare system.
Camera, audio and connectivity
The Studio Display XDR also features:
- 12 MP center-stage camera with Desk View
- Three studio microphones with beamforming
- Six speakers with Spatial Audio
On the connection side, it offers:
- Thunderbolt 5
- A second Thunderbolt 5 port for high-speed accessories or daisy-chaining
- Two additional USB-C ports
- Up to 140 watts of charging power via the included Thunderbolt 5 Pro cable
This also allows a 16-inch MacBook Pro to be charged quickly.
Stand and adjustment
The Studio Display XDR comes with a tilt- and height-adjustable stand:
- 105 mm height adjustment
- Balancing arm for stable, precise positioning
Alternatively, a VESA mounting adapter is available.
The price starts at 3,499 euros.
Sustainability and the environment
Both displays were developed with a focus on environmental compatibility:
- 100 percent recycled aluminum in the base
- 80 percent recycled glass in the standard glass version
- 100 percent fiber-based paper packaging
The packaging is designed to be easily folded and recycled.
Studio Display and Studio Display XDR are designed for durability, repairability, and extensive software support. At the same time, they meet high standards for energy efficiency and chemical safety. Apple aims to be carbon neutral across its entire sphere of influence by 2030.

Studio Display and Studio Display XDR redefine Apple's display strategy
With the new Studio Display family, Apple expands its product range with two clearly positioned monitors. The Studio Display covers both professional and everyday needs, offering a powerful combination of 5K resolution, a modern camera, a high-quality sound system, and Thunderbolt 5.
The Studio Display XDR is aimed at demanding professionals in fields such as HDR video editing, 3D rendering, design, printing, and medical imaging. Mini-LED technology, 2000 nits of HDR peak brightness, 120 Hz refresh rate, and extended color gamut coverage are its key technical features.
