New details have surfaced regarding the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max. Several well-known leakers are reporting changes to the case thickness, weight, and battery capacity. According to these reports, the smartphone could be slightly thicker and heavier than its predecessor. At the same time, there are indications of a larger battery and some other technical improvements.

The information comes from well-known leakers on the Weibo platform, including Ice Universe, Instant Digital, and Digital Chat Station. These sources regularly publish hints about upcoming smartphones and have frequently been correct in the past. However, the current information has not yet been officially confirmed.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to be slightly thicker

According to Ice Universe, the iPhone 18 Pro Max will have a case thickness of 8.8 mm. That would be slightly more than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which is 8.75 mm thick.

The difference is small, but it suggests that Apple may be including new hardware inside.

Weight could be over 240 grams

Back in November, leaker Instant Digital reported that the iPhone 18 Pro Max's casing would be slightly thicker than its predecessor. This could also increase the weight.

According to this report, the smartphone could weigh over 240 grams. If confirmed, it would be the heaviest iPhone since the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Larger battery possible

One possible reason for the thicker casing is a larger battery. According to Digital Chat Station, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could have a battery capacity of 5,100 to 5,200 mAh.

For comparison: The eSIM version of the iPhone 17 Pro Max has a battery with 5,088 mAh.

A slightly larger battery could lead to improved battery life.

Display size will probably remain the same

No changes are currently expected regarding the display. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to continue to feature a 6.9-inch display, the same screen size as the current model.

Further possible innovations

In addition to the changes to the casing and battery, further improvements are expected. These include:

  • a new C2 modem
  • simplified camera control
  • an improved main camera with variable aperture

The iPhone 18 Pro Max and the iPhone 18 Pro are expected to be unveiled later this year.

iPhone 18 Pro Max: First hints of design and hardware changes

Recent leaks suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be slightly thicker and possibly heavier than its predecessor. At the same time, Apple might include a slightly larger battery, while the 6.9-inch display remains unchanged.

Improvements to the camera and modem are also expected. Whether this information is confirmed will only be revealed at the official unveiling of the new iPhone generation in September. (Image: Shutterstock / Stockinq)
