Apple could surprise with a product week in March

Apple may be facing an unusual product week in March. Instead of a large stage with a live stream and elaborately produced keynote, new devices could be unveiled over several days via press releases. Indications of this come from both rumor mills and well-connected industry observers. March 4th appears to play a key role in this.

Apple has announced a "special experience" for March 4th at 9:00 AM ET (3:00 PM CET). Members of the press have been invited to New York, London, and Shanghai. This international scope alone demonstrates that this is not a small, casual announcement.

It remains unclear, however, what this "special experience" will actually look like. A traditional keynote with a live stream seems rather unlikely at this point. Instead, there are increasing indications that Apple might take a different approach.

Speculation: Several days of press releases

John Gruber introduced a specific theory on Daring Fireball. He noted that March 4th falls on a Wednesday, leading to speculation that Apple might unveil the new products gradually over several days via press releases in its newsroom. One possible scenario:

  • Monday: Presentation of the iPhone 17e
  • Tuesday: New iPads
  • Wednesday: New MacBooks
  • Then: An „experience“ with personal demonstrations.

Following this logic, the announcements would be released over several days. The real "special experience" would then not be a classic stage event, but a hands-on event for invited media representatives. There, all the new products could be tested without Apple having to produce a full keynote video.

Shortly after this speculation was published, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg commented on social media. He explained that Gruber's assessment exactly matched his expectations based on his own information. According to Gurman, there will be no "real keynote.".

This paints a clear picture: No traditional live stream that can be watched from home. No elaborately staged event with a stage and audience.

However, it is entirely possible that Apple will release individual, standalone videos for specific products. These would then be released separately and not be part of a cohesive keynote.

These Apple products could be released in early March

Rumors surrounding potential new products are rife. If the information proves true, Apple could update several product categories simultaneously during the week of March 2nd.

iPhone 17e

A new iPhone 17e is considered likely. It is expected to be positioned as a more affordable model within the iPhone 17 series, thus representing a more attractive price option.

Affordable MacBook with A18 Pro chip

The rumor about a new, affordable MacBook with an A18 Pro chip is particularly interesting. The A18 Pro is actually known from the iPhone. Should Apple actually use this chip in a MacBook, it would be a remarkable step in the entry-level segment.

M5 MacBook Air

A new MacBook Air with an M5 chip is also expected. It would bring the next generation of Apple's own processors to the popular ultrabook and should offer significant improvements in performance and efficiency.

M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro

The MacBook Pro could also be updated. Models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are rumored. These devices would continue to target professional users who require high computing power.

New Mac displays

New Mac displays are also expected. Specific details are not yet known, but an update or expansion of the monitor portfolio is considered possible.

A18 Base iPad

In the tablet sector, a new entry-level iPad with an A18 chip could be released. This would bring the current model up to date technically.

M4 iPad Air

An iPad Air with an M4 chip is also rumored. This would bring the Air model significantly closer to the Pro series in terms of performance.

Why Apple might forgo a keynote

A multi-day announcement strategy via press releases would have several advantages:

  • Each product receives its own message cycle.
  • Media reports are spread over several days
  • Production costs for a large keynote speech are eliminated
  • Flexibility in scheduling and publication

Apple has previously unveiled products without an event. However, a full week of several major announcements without a traditional keynote would be a much more consistent implementation of this strategy.

The "special experience" on March 4th would serve as an exclusive presentation for media representatives. Personal demonstrations would provide initial impressions and test reports without the need for a global live show.

Apple could unveil several devices in March without a live event

Current information suggests that Apple might take a different approach to product launches in March. Instead of a central keynote with a live stream, new devices could be announced over several days via press releases, accompanied by a hands-on event on March 4th.

With a possible iPhone 17e, new MacBooks with M5 chips, a budget MacBook with A18 Pro, new Mac displays, and updated iPads, a substantial product week is on the horizon.

Whether this strategy proves successful will become clear during the week of March 2nd. One thing is certain: should Apple choose this approach, it would represent a significant step away from the classic event format and towards a staggered, media-oriented product communication strategy.
