The next generation of the MacBook Pro, featuring Apple's new high-end chips, is still a long way off, but is now noticeably closer. After months of rumors and conflicting information, there is finally a concrete timeframe for its release. The focus is on the new models with the M5 Pro and M5 Max, which, according to current information, could be unveiled as early as the beginning of March.

In recent weeks, there has been much speculation surrounding the launch of the new MacBook Pro generation. For a long time, January was considered the likely date, but that month passed without any announcement. The only certainty was that the new devices would be released alongside macOS 26.3. This update is now nearing release, further fueling hopes for an imminent hardware launch.

However, this tie-in only meant that the new MacBook Pro had to be released before macOS 26.4. How close the release actually was remained unclear at first. New statements from well-informed sources now provide a much more precise outlook.

Concrete timeline for the new MacBook Pro

In the latest "Power On" newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman cited an updated timeline. According to him, the new MacBook Pros with M5 Pro and M5 Max are still closely tied to the macOS 26.3 cycle, which extends into March.

Another important detail: The existing M4 versions of the high-end MacBook Pros are currently only available in limited quantities. This is considered a clear indication that Apple is reducing its inventory to make room for new models. According to Gurman, the product launch is currently scheduled for the week of March 2nd.

Possible announcement date

Apple traditionally announces new products on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays. If the planned timeframe remains unchanged, a presentation between March 2nd and 4th is most likely. While this rules out a short-notice release, the wait should be manageable.

Other planned Mac launches from Apple

In addition to the new MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max, Apple is planning further Mac innovations, according to Gurman:

  • MacBook Air with M5: An update for Apple's especially popular, lightweight notebook.
  • New Mac Studio: Rumored to include M5 Max and M5 Ultra.
  • New studio display: HDR support and a higher refresh rate of 90 or 120 Hz are expected.

Furthermore, Apple is expected to release an even more affordable MacBook later in the first half of the year, equipped with an A18 Pro chip. A new Mac mini is also planned as the successor to the M4 model, which recently received its first major redesign in over ten years.

Towards the end of the year, a major change finally follows: Apple is working on a redesigned MacBook Pro with an OLED display, thinner design, touch display support and the upcoming M6 chips.

Apple is preparing for a major year for Macs

The indications of a market launch in early March suggest that Apple is preparing for a strong year for the Mac. The MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max is likely just the beginning. With further planned updates for the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, Mac mini, and display hardware, it's clear that Apple is consistently and comprehensively developing its Mac strategy for 2026.
