Several recent leaks suggest that Apple is focusing on this very issue with its first foldable device, aiming to set a new benchmark. The rumored battery is nothing less than the largest ever fitted to an iPhone.

Foldable smartphones are technically demanding. Large displays, movable hinges, and a slim design leave little room for a high-performance battery. Many currently available devices therefore have to compromise on battery life. With the iPhone Fold, Apple seems to be taking a different approach. Internal tests, supply chain reports, and analyst opinions paint a picture of a device where energy efficiency and battery capacity play a central role.

Record-breaking battery capacity

The starting point for the current discussion is a post by the Weibo leaker "Fixed Focus Digital." According to him, the iPhone Fold will be equipped with a battery of over 5,500 mAh. This would significantly surpass all previous iPhones.

For comparison: The iPhone 17 Pro Max has a battery capacity of 5,088 mAh and is currently considered the leader within the iPhone series.

A battery capacity exceeding 5,500 mAh would be particularly noteworthy for a foldable smartphone, as this class of device usually has to make do with smaller batteries due to its design.

Comparison with existing foldables

A look at the current competition shows how significant the potential lead could be. The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold has a battery capacity of 5,015 mAh. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, with 4,400 mAh, is considerably smaller.

Should Apple actually install a battery with over 5,500 mAh, the iPhone Fold would be clearly the class leader in this respect and would noticeably stand out from existing foldables.

Previous leaks and supply chain reports

The current information is not an isolated case. Last year, leaker "yeux1122" reported that Apple was testing batteries in the 5,400 to 5,800 mAh range. This information reportedly came from the Asian supply chain. Another report from March of the same year confirmed this trend and emphasized that Apple places great importance on improved energy efficiency.

According to reports, internal components were deliberately streamlined without compromising battery life. On the contrary, battery life was said to be one of the highest priorities in the development of the iPhone Fold.

Analyst assessment

Even renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo commented on the topic. In his estimation, Apple will rely on high-density battery cells. This technology allows for higher capacity while maintaining or even reducing the size of the device. This is a crucial factor, especially for a foldable device, to combine large displays with long battery life.

Expected features of the iPhone Fold

Besides battery life, numerous details about the iPhone Fold's technical specifications are already circulating. Rumors suggest the device will feature:
