Apple Fitness+ undergoes restructuring: What's next?

Apple Fitness+ is currently at an uncertain point. While the service has been considered an integral part of Apple's fitness and health offerings since its launch, there are increasing indications that Apple is rethinking its strategy. New reports suggest that Apple Fitness+ in its current form is not necessarily the final solution, but could become part of a larger restructuring.

Bloomberg's well-connected journalist Mark Gurman recently reported on the future of Apple Fitness+. According to his assessment, the service is currently "in limbo". He didn't mention any concrete decisions or timelines, but made it clear that various options are apparently being considered internally.

The current assessment of the future of Apple Fitness+

According to Gurman , it's still unclear what direction Apple will take with Apple Fitness+. He himself suggested that Apple might integrate the service more closely with the Health app in the long term. A merger of the two offerings, possibly in the form of a combined subscription, would be conceivable. This idea aligns with Apple's overall strategy of more closely linking fitness and health features.

Connection to Apple's Health plans

In this context, Gurman's recent report on Apple Health+ is also relevant. According to the report, Apple had originally planned to launch a separate subscription service that would provide AI-powered health recommendations. However, these plans have been scaled back. Instead of a standalone Apple Health+ subscription, some of the planned features will now be repurposed and introduced individually. This reinforces the assumption that Apple intends to consolidate its health services rather than further fragmenting them.

What Apple Fitness+ currently offers

Apple Fitness+ launched in 2020 and is integrated into Apple's Fitness app. The service offers an extensive library of workout and meditation videos led by professional trainers. The content is available on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, and covers various training styles and fitness levels.

Apple Fitness+ is priced at €9.99 per month or €79.99 per year in Germany. The service is also included in the Apple One Premium subscription, which bundles several Apple services for a monthly price of €34.95.

Classification and possible development

The current uncertainty surrounding Apple Fitness+ suggests that Apple is realigning its health and fitness strategy. Instead of new individual subscriptions, the focus could shift to integrated solutions where fitness data, health information, and recommendations work more closely together. A stronger connection between Apple Fitness+ and the Health app would fit this picture, even though there is no official confirmation yet.

Apple Fitness+ is undergoing a realignment phase

The future of Apple Fitness+ remains uncertain. However, it's clear that Apple isn't simply abandoning the service, but rather reassessing its role within its overall offering. Whether it will be merged with the Health app or integrated in some other way is currently unclear. Apple Fitness+ is thus in a transitional phase that will likely be crucial in determining how Apple's fitness and health services are structured in the future. (Image: Apple)
