iOS 27 brings more stability and battery life

With iOS 27, Apple apparently isn't planning a major design overhaul, but rather a technical realignment behind the scenes. According to a report by Mark Gurman in Bloomberg's Power On newsletter, the focus is on code cleanup, performance improvements, and optimized battery life.

Instead of introducing striking new features, iOS 27 is primarily intended to strengthen the system's foundation. The goal is to noticeably improve efficiency, stability, and performance.

In recent years, Apple's software has come under increasing criticism. Many users have experienced more bugs, occasional performance issues, and reduced battery life. Apple was long considered a benchmark for software quality, so this noticeable decline has led to disappointment.

Gurman describes iOS in his report as "a bit chaotic under the hood". This is precisely where iOS 27 comes in. The new version aims to clean up the internal workings to stabilize the operating system's foundation and make it more efficient in the long run.

Code cleanup as a core measure

A key component of iOS 27 is the removal of remnants of old code. Software that has evolved over years often contains outdated structures and no longer needed components. These can impair system performance or consume unnecessary resources.

According to reports, Apple is planning a comprehensive overhaul of its underlying codebase. The goal is to make internal processes more efficient and reduce complexity. A cleaner architecture can help minimize errors and stabilize overall performance.

The company hopes that these changes will lead to noticeable efficiency gains, ultimately resulting in better performance for users.

User interface improvements

In addition to technical improvements, iOS 27 will also receive minor adjustments to the user interface. However, it explicitly refers to "some optimizations", not a fundamental redesign.

The changes are intended to be functional and subtle. The goal is to streamline processes and increase efficiency without drastically altering the familiar appearance. According to the latest report, no major visual changes are planned.

Subtle update of older apps

Another component of iOS 27 is the updating of older apps. These are intended to "run better." This doesn't mean radical new developments, but rather targeted improvements in the background.

Older applications are being reworked to make them more efficient and stable. This can shorten loading times, reduce crashes, and lower resource consumption. Here, too, the focus is not on design, but on technical optimization.

Improved battery life through increased efficiency

A key goal of iOS 27 is improved battery life. According to Gurman, in addition to code cleanup, Apple is specifically working on achieving efficiency gains that will positively impact energy consumption.

The underlying changes are intended to optimize background processes and use resources more efficiently. If these measures are effective, iPhones could last longer in everyday use.

Whether Apple will actively market these improvements as a new selling point remains unclear. It's also possible that the longer battery life is an indirect effect of the technical streamlining.

AI development and Siri features

Besides performance and stability, the further development of AI functions also plays a role in iOS 27. According to previous reports from Bloomberg, some of the Siri features announced at WWDC 2024 have been postponed and are now expected to appear with iOS 27.

These are key promises surrounding Siri that were originally slated for earlier implementation. Additionally, there are indications that Apple is working on a Siri chatbot for iOS 27. Specific details are not yet available, but it is expected that further information will be released before the keynote in June.

iOS 27 marks a reboot under the hood

According to a recent report, iOS 27 is clearly focused on stability and efficiency. Instead of spectacular new features, Apple is concentrating on comprehensive code cleanup, minor UI optimizations, the modernization of older apps, and improvements to battery life.

After a period in which bugs and performance issues were frequently discussed, iOS 27 could represent a return to greater technical discipline. The combination of internal cleanup and AI development suggests that Apple aims to both strengthen the system's foundation and prepare for new features.

Whether the planned measures will bring the hoped-for improvements will become clear after the official presentation and initial tests. However, the direction is clear: less chaos behind the scenes, more efficiency in everyday use. (Image: Shutterstock / Karlis Dambrans)
