While iOS 27 isn't officially on the horizon yet, clues are mounting about what Apple has planned for the next major iPhone update. The idea is not just to display health data, but to actively help users achieve their fitness and health goals. Personalized guidance and reminders are designed to support this. Close integration with Apple Fitness+ is considered very likely. It's even conceivable that both services could eventually merge into a single, unified offering.
Multitasking features for the iPhone Fold
The first iPhone Fold is expected to be released this fall. Rumors suggest that iOS 27 will be heavily tailored to this new form factor.
The focus is on improved multitasking features, which may be available exclusively on the foldable model. When unfolded, the iPhone Fold is expected to be roughly the size of an iPad mini. Therefore, it's reasonable to assume that Apple will adopt a modified version of the multitasking system from iPadOS 26. A windowing system or the ability to work with multiple apps simultaneously would make sense in this scenario.
Visual redesign of Siri
Siri is expected to receive a major functional upgrade with iOS 26.4. This includes new AI features that were originally announced with iOS 18. Additionally, a new architecture based on large language models will be introduced to better align Siri with modern AI chatbots.
The visual aspect is expected to follow in iOS 27. Rumors suggest Apple is planning a visible redesign of Siri. The approach appears to be a deliberate two-stage process. First, the new features will be introduced and stabilized, followed by the visual update. This will allow Apple to later communicate that Siri is completely new, even though the technical foundation has already been laid.
AI-powered web search tool
According to Bloomberg, Apple is working on an AI web search tool for iOS 27. Specific details are scarce so far. Apple is likely proceeding cautiously to avoid jeopardizing its existing search agreement with Safari.
There are strong indications that this tool will be implemented as an evolution of Spotlight. Spotlight has been promoted for years as a search hub for apps, content, and the web. With the new AI features that Siri is also expected to receive, Spotlight could become significantly more powerful in iOS 27 and enable true context-based web searches.
Improved collections in the Photos app
The Photos app is also slated for further changes. Macworld has discovered references in leaked Apple code to improved Collections, planned for iOS 27.
The Photos app was significantly redesigned in iOS 18 and refined with a new tab navigation in iOS 26. The extent of the changes in iOS 27 is still unclear. However, smarter collections and possibly a modernized feature for shared albums, which has seen little development in years, are expected.
New pairing system for AirPods
Macworld has also found evidence of a new pairing system for AirPods, which is expected to be introduced with iOS 27.
The information comes from an early internal version of iOS 26, which also contained references to features for later updates such as iOS 26.4, iOS 27, and even iOS 28. Current AirPods pairing is already considered very mature. This makes the question of what improvements Apple is planning all the more intriguing. Faster switching between devices or better management of multiple AirPods models are conceivable.
Revised calendar app
Shortly before the release of iOS 26, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg announced a major new feature for iOS 27. According to him, Apple is working on a completely redesigned Calendar app.
The new version is slated to appear not only on the iPhone, but on all platforms, including macOS 27. The launch was originally planned for an earlier date, but was postponed. The Calendar app is one of the oldest system apps and rarely receives major updates. Expectations are correspondingly high, even though concrete details are still lacking.
Focus on stability in the style of Snow Leopard
