Clicks Power Keyboard: New MagSafe keyboard in detail

Clicks is best known for one thing: iPhone cases with integrated, physical keyboards. The company deliberately positions itself against purely touch-based operation, focusing on tactile feedback and nostalgic typing. However, its latest announcements show that Clicks has learned from past criticism. Instead of another device-specific case, it now offers a universally compatible MagSafe keyboard with a built-in battery. Additionally, Clicks is launching its first dedicated Android device. Both products share the same goal: to make technology more functional and consciously usable.

The original Clicks keyboard cases were first unveiled before CES 2024. The concept quickly garnered attention but didn't receive universally positive feedback. While the idea of a physical keyboard for modern smartphones was praised, the design, heavily tied to specific iPhone models, was frequently criticized.

A major weakness was that upgrading an iPhone often required purchasing a new Clicks keyboard. This limitation made the product unattractive to many users in the long run. Clicks is addressing precisely this issue.

The Clicks Power Keyboard replaces the keyboard case

New concept with MagSafe and Bluetooth

With the Clicks Power Keyboard, Clicks is moving away from the traditional case design. The keyboard is no longer built around the iPhone, but attaches magnetically to the back. This is made possible by MagSafe technology. The connection is via Bluetooth, meaning the keyboard is no longer tied to a specific device model.

The Power Keyboard works with any MagSafe-compatible iPhone. It's also compatible with all smartphones that support magnetic charging. This includes compatibility with Android devices for the first time, significantly expanding its target audience. Furthermore, it can be connected to TVs and Apple Vision Pro.

Integrated battery and charging capacity

Inside the Clicks Power Keyboard is a 2150 mAh battery. Charging performance varies significantly depending on the connected device. An iPhone Air can be charged to approximately 68 percent, while an iPhone 17 Pro Max reaches around 42 percent.

Thanks to the improved battery life of modern smartphones, the Power Keyboard is less of a last resort. Instead, it extends battery life in everyday use, especially when traveling or on long days without a power outlet.

Weight and dimensions as disadvantages

A clear disadvantage of the Power Keyboard is its weight. At 180 grams, it is heavier than an iPhone 17, which weighs approximately 177 grams.

The dimensions are also a factor. While the iPhone 17 is slightly longer, the Power Keyboard is considerably thicker. The iPhone 17 measures 7.95 millimeters thick, while the keyboard is 15.2 millimeters thick. This makes it almost twice as thick as the smartphone itself. For an accessory that should ideally be usable with one hand, this is a noticeable compromise.

Price and availability

The Clicks Power Keyboard is currently available for pre-order directly from Clicks for $79. The first units are expected to ship in the spring.

Clicks Power Keyboard prioritizes compatibility over binding

With the Clicks Power Keyboard, Clicks demonstrates that the company has responded to previous criticism. The switch from a device-specific keyboard case to a MagSafe and Bluetooth solution eliminates a key problem of the first generation. The keyboard is no longer tied to specific iPhone models and can be used much more flexibly, even across different platforms.

At the same time, Clicks remains true to its core concept. The Power Keyboard is aimed at users who want to type intentionally and appreciate physical input. While its weight and height do impose limitations, they don't change the product's clear focus. The Clicks Power Keyboard isn't a mass-market product, but rather an accessory for anyone who wants to add more functionality and haptic feedback to their smartphone. (Image: Clicks Technology)
