Apple & Google: Musk criticizes Gemini deal regarding Siri

Apple, together with Google, has released new details about the future direction of Apple Intelligence. The focus is on closer collaboration with Google, in which the generative AI platform Gemini is expected to play a key role. Shortly after the announcement, Elon Musk spoke out, expressing significant concerns. His criticism is primarily directed at Google's growing power in the AI market and the role Apple is now assigning to the company.

Apple has been working for some time to make Siri smarter and more personalized. With Apple Intelligence, the company aims to offer features that are more tailored to individual user habits. The now- confirmed integration of Gemini shows that Apple is also relying on external AI technology. This decision is generating discussion, as it could further shift existing market dynamics.

Apple and Google collaboration on Gemini

Apple and Google have officially announced that Google's generative AI platform Gemini will support Apple intelligence features in the future. This includes, among other things, a significantly more personalized version of Siri. This new generation of Siri is expected to be released later this year.

Apple has not yet announced a specific release date. Reports indicate a release in March or April, presumably as part of iOS 26.4. The goal is to make Siri more context-aware, more adaptive, and more personalized to individual users.

Elon Musk's criticism of the concentration of power

Elon Musk responded to the announcement with a public post on X. In it, he expressed concern that the collaboration represented an inappropriate concentration of power at Google. In his view, this is particularly problematic because Google already controls key platforms in everyday digital life with Android and the Chrome browser.

Musk is CEO of xAI, the company behind the AI chatbot Grok, which is considered a direct competitor to Gemini. His criticism should therefore also be seen against the backdrop of increasing competition in the AI sector.

Background: Lawsuit by xAI against Apple and OpenAI

These recent statements are not isolated incidents. Last year, xAI filed a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI, accusing the two companies of colluding to secure their continued dominance in the AI market.

This history lends additional weight to Musk's current criticism and shows how strained the relationships between the leading AI providers have become.

Reactions from Apple and Google

So far, neither Apple nor Google has publicly responded to Musk's comment. It is considered rather unlikely that either company will comment in the short term. Should a statement be issued, however, the debate surrounding market position, collaborations, and dependencies in the AI sector is likely to intensify.

Apple is betting on Gemini and intensifying the AI competition

The planned integration of Gemini into Siri marks an important step for Apple in the further development of Apple Intelligence. At the same time, Elon Musk's reaction demonstrates how sensitive the issue of power distribution in the AI market has become. Apple, Google, and xAI exemplify a competition that revolves not only around technology but also around influence and control. The long-term impact of this collaboration will become clear at the latest with the launch of the new Siri version. (Image: Mojahid_Mottakin / DepositPhotos.com)
