Apple TV was among the big winners at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards. The streaming service took home three awards, further solidifying its position in the competition for high-quality television series. Awards were given for a comedy series as well as for outstanding acting performances in comedy and drama.

Since its launch, Apple TV has consistently focused on exclusive original content. The recent Golden Globe awards add to a long list of successes and demonstrate how firmly the service has established itself in the international awards landscape. The accolades recognize two very different productions, each of which has impressed critics and audiences in its own unique way.

Three Golden Globes for Apple TV

Apple TV received a total of three awards at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards:

  • Best TV series, musical or comedy, for "The Studio"„
  • Best performance by a lead actor in a television series, musical or comedy, goes to Seth Rogen in "The Studio"„
  • Best performance by a lead actress in a television drama series for Rhea Seehorn in "Pluribus"„

For Seth Rogen and Rhea Seehorn, this is their first Golden Globe of their careers. The awards also mark personal milestones for both actors.

„"The Studio" as an exceptional success in the comedy field

„"The Studio" is becoming one of the most successful new comedy series of recent years. With 13 wins, it recently became the most successful new comedy series in history at the Emmy Awards. Among its most prestigious accolades are the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series and the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor for Seth Rogen.

"The Studio" also achieved success at the Critics' Choice Awards. There, the series won the award for Best Comedy Series, Seth Rogen was honored as Best Lead Actor in a Comedy, and Ike Barinholtz received the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy. This makes "The Studio" one of the few series to have won a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and a Critics' Choice Award in the Best Comedy category.

Further accolades and nominations followed, including recognition from the American Film Institute for TV Program of the Year and at the Actor Awards. There, the series was nominated for Outstanding Ensemble, Seth Rogen and Ike Barinholtz for Outstanding Male Actor, and Catherine O'Hara and Kathryn Hahn for Outstanding Female Actor. Additional nominations came from the Directors Guild, Producers Guild, Casting Society Artios Awards, Art Directors Guild, Costume Designers Guild, American Society of Cinematographers, Make-Up and Hair Stylists Guild, and the Film Independent Spirit Awards.

The story of "The Studio" follows Matt Remick, played by Seth Rogen, as he takes over the struggling Continental Studios. While the film industry battles for relevance and economic survival, Matt must navigate internal power struggles, narcissistic creatives, and ruthless corporate interests. Every decision, from casting and marketing to award ceremonies, can jeopardize his career. For Matt, it's the job of a lifetime, and simultaneously his greatest threat.

„Pluribus“ and the success of Rhea Seehorn

"Pluribus" is also generating buzz. Rhea Seehorn won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series. She had already received the same award at the Critics' Choice Awards the previous weekend.

The series, created by Vince Gilligan, blends various genres. It centers on the unluckiest person in the world, who must save the Earth from happiness. The unusual premise is realized with clear character development and a distinctive tone.

Among the accolades received by "Pluribus" are an American Film Institute Award for TV Program of the Year and an Actor Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama for Rhea Seehorn. It has also received nominations from the Producers Guild, the Art Directors Guild, and a GLAAD Media Award nomination for Outstanding New TV Series.

Placement in the overall balance sheet of Apple TV

The three wins at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards are part of a broader success story. In recent years, Apple has already been honored for productions such as "Killers of the Flower Moon" and "Black Bird." In total, Apple Original films, documentaries, and series have garnered 682 wins and 3,115 nominations to date.

Among its most notable successes are multiple Emmy Award-winning series such as "The Studio" and "Ted Lasso," as well as the Oscar-winning film "CODA" for Best Picture. These figures underscore Apple TV's standing in the international streaming service market.

Availability and outlook

Both "The Studio" and "Pluribus" are currently available on Apple TV. In addition to drama and comedy series, the streaming service also offers feature films, documentaries, and programs for children and families. Since its global launch on November 1, 2019, Apple TV has been the first streaming service to focus entirely on original content and, in its early stages, achieved greater success and awards faster than any other provider.
