According to a report, the next MacBook Neo will feature the A19 Pro chip. This means a jump from 8 to 12 GB of RAM, a significantly more powerful GPU, and improved efficiency – the biggest upgrade compared to the current model.
The MacBook Neo is Apple's surprise success of the year: Tim Cook confirmed the best launch week ever among new Mac buyers, and demand apparently exceeds Apple's chip inventory. However, the current model's 8 GB of RAM is among its most frequent criticisms. This is likely to change with the next generation: According to supply chain journalist Tim Culpan, Apple plans to equip the successor with the A19 Pro chip – which brings three significant improvements.
The report comes from the same source that also revealed the unexpectedly high demand for the current MacBook Neo (via Culpium). According to the report, Apple had originally planned to release the next MacBook Neo in 2027. The chip upgrade from the A18 Pro to the A19 Pro is the most logical change – and it alone significantly improves the device in several areas.
More RAM: From 8 to 12 GB
The most significant advantage of the A19 Pro chip for the MacBook Neo is its memory. The current model is limited to 8 GB of unified memory – sufficient for basic tasks, but it becomes insufficient for more demanding workflows such as editing large documents, working with multiple browser tabs, or using Apple Intelligence features.
The A19 Pro brings 12 GB of RAM – a 50 percent increase. This brings the MacBook Neo closer to the MacBook Air, which also offers 12 GB in its base version, and makes it attractive to a wider audience.
More powerful GPU thanks to Neural Accelerators
The A19 Pro chip features Neural Accelerators in each GPU core, enabling up to three times the performance of AI-intensive GPU tasks. This applies not only to Apple's intelligence features and the upcoming Siri redesign, but also to gaming and image editing.
The CPU improvements over the A18 Pro are more moderate, but the GPU gains are substantial – an area where the current MacBook Neo has to make compromises due to its iPhone chip.
Improved efficiency
The A19 Pro is manufactured using a second-generation 3-nanometer process and offers efficiency advantages over its predecessor. While dramatic improvements in battery life aren't expected, every optimization counts – especially for a device designed for portability and long battery life.
When will the MacBook Neo 2 be released?
According to the report, Apple originally planned the successor for 2027. Whether the unexpectedly high success of the current model will change this timeline is unclear. The MacBook Neo uses discontinued A-Pro chips from iPhone production – so Apple is dependent on having enough A19 Pro chips left over from iPhone manufacturing before the next MacBook Neo can go into production.
Even if the timeline remains unchanged, one thing is certain: the MacBook Neo 2 will address the current biggest drawback – the 8 GB of RAM – while simultaneously improving GPU performance and efficiency. For anyone who has been considering buying the current model, the wait could be worthwhile. (Image: Apple)
