Another leaker indirectly confirms that Apple is using Deep Red as a new color for the iPhone 18 Pro. His evidence: Android manufacturers are already copying the color for their own flagship phones.
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman reported back in February that Apple was testing a new color option for the iPhone 18 Pro: a dark red – described by some as Crimson. Whether this red would replace the popular Cosmic Orange variant of the iPhone 17 Pro or be offered as an additional option was unclear at the time. Now, Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station has provided indirect confirmation – in an unusual way.
Digital Chat Station, which has established itself as a reliable source for iPhone leaks in the past and recently reported on the design of the iPhone 18 Pro, writes on Weibo that the likelihood of Crimson being a color option for the iPhone 18 Pro is high. His evidence: He claims to have seen that the next flagship of an Android manufacturer is preparing this exact color for production.
Why Android manufacturers serve as proof
The logic behind it: Competitors regularly copy iPhone designs and colors – and do so particularly quickly when they receive information about Apple's plans. This is exactly what happened with the Cosmic Orange of the iPhone 17 Pro: Within a few weeks of its launch, orange smartphones from several Android manufacturers appeared.
If an Android flagship is now being produced in Deep Red, the leaker suggests that the competition already knows Apple's color choice and is trying to launch a product in the same color at the same time as, or even before, the iPhone 18 Pro.
However, it remains unclear whether the Android manufacturers are reacting to new, unpublished information or simply to the already publicly known Bloomberg report. If the latter is the case, it wouldn't provide any real additional evidence.
Red, purple, or brown?
Gurman also reported in February that Apple had briefly considered a purple and a brown variant. However, both were more variations of the red shade than standalone color options. This suggests that Apple tested different nuances before settling on Deep Red.
The success of Cosmic Orange has apparently shown Apple that bold colors in the pro segment not only attract attention but also boost sales. A dark red iPhone 18 Pro would continue this strategy – striking enough to be eye-catching, but understated enough for a professional device.
iPhone 18 Pro: When will we have certainty?
Final confirmation of the iPhone 18 Pro's color palette won't come until summer at the earliest, when mass production begins and dummy models surface. Until then, Crimson remains the most likely candidate for the new signature color in Apple's Pro lineup. (Image: Shutterstock / Ekaterina_Minaeva)
