The iPhone 20 is generating buzz long before its potential release. New rumors suggest that Apple is planning a significantly redesigned version for its 20th anniversary. The focus is on a curved casing, extremely narrow bezels, and improvements to the all-screen concept.
The current information comes from the X account @phonefuturist, who published details and a model image in two posts. The source is not established, so the information should be treated with caution.
Nevertheless, the rumors touch on points that have already been hinted at by more well-known analysts. The idea of a virtually bezel-less iPhone, in particular, fits with Apple's long-term design strategy.
Radically new design with thinner edges
According to the report, the iPhone 20 will have a display bezel that is only 1.1 mm thin. For comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro has a bezel of approximately 1.44 mm.
Additionally, a seamlessly curved design is described. The display glass is said to be convex and curve downwards at the edges. Visually, it blends into a slim, polished frame reminiscent of the iPhone X. The goal is a significantly more fluid overall look without any sharp edges.
Camera below the display remains difficult
Apple is continuing its efforts to integrate the front-facing camera invisibly under the display. According to reports, Samsung's under-panel camera (UPC) was also being considered as an alternative to the under-display camera (UDC).
The problem: Neither technology currently achieves the image quality of classic cameras.
- UDC suffers from light loss through the display.
- UPC uses a perforated pixel structure, but this also results in quality compromises.
Possible solutions: Dynamic Island or Punch-Hole
If Apple does not resolve the problems in time, two alternatives are considered likely:
- Smaller Dynamic Island than on the iPhone 17 Pro
- Punch-hole recess
Additionally, there is speculation that the device could be combined with Samsung's "Polar ID" for facial recognition.
Connection to iPhone 18 Pro
The iPhone 18 Pro is already expected to introduce a smaller Dynamic Island. The iPhone 20 could continue this trend and further reduce the visible area of the front camera.
Apple's goal: A true all-screen iPhone
Apple continues to pursue its goal of a fully screen-filling iPhone. However, reports from January already indicated that this endeavor remains technically challenging, primarily due to camera quality issues with under-display solutions.
The problem is well-known: Current implementations, even on Android devices, have not yet reached the desired level.
Release date
The iPhone 20 is currently expected in autumn 2027. This would coincide with the 20th anniversary of the iPhone.
iPhone 20: Big design plans, unresolved camera problems
The rumors surrounding the iPhone 20 paint a clear picture: narrower bezels, curved design, convex display and a strong focus on an all-screen experience.
At the same time, the front camera remains the biggest uncertainty. Apple is apparently testing various approaches such as UDC and UPC, but is not yet satisfied with the quality. Therefore, a smaller dynamic island or a punch-hole currently seems more realistic.
Even though the source is not verified, many details align with existing expectations. Should this be confirmed, the iPhone 20 could bring one of the biggest design updates in years. (Image: Shutterstock / hurricanehank)
