New images have surfaced, purportedly showing components of a black Apple Vision Pro – this time with more detail than the first leak. Despite the convincing images, there is strong evidence to suggest it is a prototype that will never be released.
The rumor of a black Apple Vision Pro persists – and has now gained new momentum. After initial images of supposedly black components surfaced at the end of May, the same source provided further material a week later, showing more parts of the headset in the dark color. However, tangible hardware innovations for the Apple Vision Pro are not expected for some time, meaning that even if the images were genuine, a black production model would not be imminent. This makes the new photos interesting, but hardly a harbinger of an imminent product.

What the new recordings show
The images were published on Wednesday via the X platform by a Hong Kong-based developer using the names Pipfix or LusiRoy8. They show a series of detailed shots of a device that strongly resembles an Apple Vision Pro. One close-up reveals a ventilation grille with a side-mounted camera – a feature that identifies the headset as an Apple Vision Pro.

Further images show the connector for the battery pack, although the connection mechanism itself is not colored. Another image shows the top of this battery pack as well as a black, braided cable. A final photo shows the dial used to adjust the headband attached to the headset – both the band and the dial appear black. Previously, the same account had shown the side speakers of the Apple Vision Pro in the black version.
The source and its previous hit rate
The leaker has some experience with color variations, having previously provided information about the colors of the iPhone 17 Pro. However, a change in tone is noteworthy: while the earlier post briefly referred to a black Apple Vision Pro as "coming," the new post simply asks if readers like the color. What was initially a purported announcement has thus become more of an open question – a detail that suggests there are no concrete product plans.
Why restraint would be appropriate
As convincing as the photos may seem at first glance, they don't guarantee a corresponding production model. It's equally plausible that the parts came from a prototype with which Apple merely tested the color, ultimately rejecting the black model.
Several inconsistencies in the images point to this conclusion. The fabric around the visor doesn't quite match the pattern of the current version, and the battery pack appears to be wrapped in some kind of foil. Furthermore, there's a conspicuous black cable between the fingers of the person pictured, as well as another white cable in the background of the battery shot. However, these aren't AI renderings, but actual photos of black components. The differing design details, in particular, strongly suggest that these are early prototypes.
Many things point to a discontinued prototype model
Since the strap shown is the same as the Solo strap, it's likely a prototype of the M2 model that never went into production. Apple would have little incentive for a wider range of colors anyway: given the relatively low sales figures of the Apple Vision Pro, the effort of producing multiple color variations hardly justifies the cost. Furthermore, black components haven't been seen for the first time – rumors of this date back to April 2025, supplemented by a photo of a black headset jack from December. Apple has not yet officially confirmed any new color options.
A black Vision Pro remains speculation for now
A remote possibility of a black version appearing in a future model cannot be completely ruled out. However, the topic is unlikely to play a role at WWDC. According to reports, no new hardware generation is planned for the Apple Vision Pro in the foreseeable future: Plans for the Vision division have reportedly been significantly scaled back recently, and the responsible team is said to be focusing its resources more on the development of smart glasses, while simultaneously working on a thinner and lighter Apple Vision Pro. A new model could therefore be unveiled no earlier than 2028 – although Apple has reportedly not yet confirmed such a timeline to its suppliers. (Image: Shutterstock / Hadrian)
