Apple has confirmed a new accessibility feature for tvOS 27: "Larger Text" allows users to adjust the font size of the Apple TV 4K interface system-wide. This closes a gap that has existed for years – and provides a practical tool not only for people with visual impairments, but also for anyone sitting far from the TV.
Apple announced the feature as part of its annual Accessibility Preview – the same event in which the company also unveiled automatic subtitles and other assistive technologies for its 2026 platforms. The announcement comes ahead of WWDC 2026, where Apple will officially present all new software generations. While relatively little information has leaked about tvOS 27 so far, this confirmation provides a first concrete indication of where Apple is focusing its efforts with the platform.

What Larger Text changes on Apple TV
The new setting increases the font size system-wide on the Apple TV 4K. Apple describes the feature as an aid for users with low vision who previously had difficulty deciphering on-screen content. Comparison images from Apple's press materials clearly show the difference between the previous and new font sizes: menus, lists, content descriptions, and input fields scale accordingly.

In practice, this benefits a broader target group than might initially be apparent. Since Apple TV is typically operated from several meters away, the readability of small text is a recurring problem, even for those with normal eyesight. A centrally adjustable font size significantly reduces this hurdle.

Where tvOS 26 currently draws its limits
So far, tvOS 26 offers two related tools, but these do not cover the full picture:
- Bold text can be activated to increase readability through bolder font styles.
- Hovering over text enlarges the actively selected element.
A true system-wide dynamic type logic, as has been established on iPhone and iPad for years, was completely lacking in tvOS until now. With Larger Text, the platform moves closer to the behavior of other Apple operating systems – consistent behavior across all devices, which fits with Apple's recent strategy.
tvOS 27 in an unusually quiet lead-up
While numerous rumors about specific new features are already circulating regarding iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, things have been remarkably quiet about tvOS 27. One possible reason: Apple is holding back the most important new features for the next generation of Apple TV 4K hardware, which, along with the revamped Siri architecture, is currently on hold. If key tvOS 27 features are tied to the new hardware, Apple will likely only reveal them along with the device's release.
This makes the Larger Text Confirmation all the more interesting: It is one of the few features that work independently of the new hardware on existing Apple TV 4K models – and is therefore immediately relevant for the current user base.
To be unveiled at WWDC 2026
Apple will unveil tvOS 27 alongside iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and visionOS 27 at the WWDC keynote on Monday, June 8, 2026. Whether the company will announce further tvOS innovations beyond the initial announcement, or whether the platform's full release will be deliberately delayed until the later hardware launch, is likely to be one of the open questions of the conference. The complete overview of what's expected for the Apple TV 4K in 2026 shows that the platform is poised for a significantly bigger leap than what Apple hinted at in the accessibility preview.
