Just days after the worldwide launch of iOS 26 and the other systems, Apple is beginning the next round of betas. The first developer betas of iOS 26.1, iPadOS 26.1, macOS 26.1 ("Tahoe"), watchOS 26.1, tvOS 26.1, and visionOS 26.1 are now available for download via the Apple Developer Program. This continues Apple's usual cycle of releasing major updates with additional point updates after the release of the main version.
With the .1 versions, Apple typically delivers the first feature upgrades and optimizations after a major release. While iOS 26 laid the foundation with the new Liquid Glass design, Apple Intelligence, and numerous detailed improvements, the upcoming interim updates traditionally focus on minor enhancements, bug fixes, and stabilizing the overall system. Experience has shown that features that didn't make it into the final version in time are also added later.
Focus on stability and first additions
At the time of the first beta release, no official release notes with specific new features are available yet. The coming hours and days will reveal whether Apple has already integrated new features or whether the initial focus will be on stability, bug fixes, and performance. In recent years, Apple has often incorporated minor adjustments in the areas of system apps, accessibility features, or security into the .1 versions.
macOS 26.1, watchOS 26.1 and more
The other systems have also received their first beta versions. macOS 26.1 ("Tahoe") could bring additional tools for the Repair Assistant or minor improvements to Apple Intelligence. watchOS 26.1 is likely to initially focus on optimizations for the new high blood pressure feature and Adaptive Power Mode. tvOS 26.1 and visionOS 26.1 will likely receive selective design and stability tweaks; no major changes are currently documented.

Next steps in the testing phase
The release of iOS 26.1 Beta 1 marks the beginning of the next testing phase. Further developer betas are expected in the coming weeks at one- to two-week intervals. At the same time, Apple is also expected to soon release public betas that are technically identical to the developer versions. The final versions of iOS 26.1 and subsequent updates are traditionally expected at the end of October.
