Apple unveiled the new Apple Games app at this year's WWDC. It's designed to simplify, organize, and, above all, make the gaming experience on iPhone, iPad, and Mac more social. The app brings games, updates, events, and friend activities together in one place and complements Apple Arcade. For anyone who plays regularly or simply wants a better overview of their games, Apple is launching a central tool.
In recent years, Apple has steadily evolved in the gaming space. Apple Arcade is now an established subscription service with over 200 high-quality games. Now Apple is taking the next step: with its own app that brings together gaming experiences and puts community at the center. Apple specifically targets both casual and core gamers. The new Games app aims to make games more accessible, organized, and collaborative.
All games in one place
The Apple Games app displays all the games you've ever downloaded from the App Store to your iPhone or iPad, as well as all the games on your Mac. No more scrolling through different folders or app pages. Everything you've ever played is now gathered in one central location. If you use a game controller, you can easily control the app and launch games directly. This makes it especially easy to quickly switch between games without having to go through the home screen menu each time.
Discover what friends are playing
The app gives you recommendations based on games you've played, games your friends like, or games with Game Center features that you can play together. There are also editorially curated collections—including recommendations for current hits like Balatro, Crashlands 2, and DREDGE. If you have an Apple Arcade subscription, you'll also see a selection of the best games from the subscription catalog. The app gets more out of your subscription by pointing you to relevant content.
Playing together made easy
A key feature is the integration of Game Center. Your Game Center friends and groups are now visible directly in the app. You can send invitations, compare your game history with friends, or invite them to a match. Communication takes place via all the usual channels – e.g., iMessage or messenger apps. Also new is the challenge feature. This lets you compete with friends in point-based duels in certain games – even in single-player games. The function is based on Game Center leaderboards. Developers can integrate them in such a way that small, personal competitions with friends are possible. For example, you can create a challenge to see who can survive the most waves of enemies in Thronefall or who can achieve the highest score in Skate City: New York. These challenges turn even classic games into group experiences.

Always up to date
The app shows you what's new: updates, events, content – everything is displayed on the respective game pages. You can also see what your friends have recently played or which game is currently hosting a live event. This makes it easier to get back into games or discover new things without having to search for news yourself.
Developer comments on the new app
Zach Gage, indie developer and co-founder of Puzzmo, sees the app as a way to connect with friends: He's excited to be able to find out what his friends are playing again, even if they live far away. He also enjoys seamlessly integrating his games' social features. Glib Platonov of Doghowl Games emphasizes how helpful the new social layer is for developers and players. It makes it easier to integrate new features without disrupting the gameplay. Tim Garbos of Triband calls the app a real step forward for Apple games. The new challenge feature fits well with arcade titles like their new game WHAT THE CLASH? and helps people play together without much effort.

availability
The Apple Games app is now available to developers through the Apple Developer Program. A public beta will be available through the Apple Beta Software Program starting next month. The official launch will occur this fall alongside iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26. The app will then be offered as a free software update. Some features may change or be limited in certain regions and languages.
Games App: Apple brings structure and community to gaming
With the Apple Games app, Apple is creating a central location for all your games. The app makes it easier to manage games, discover new things, and connect with friends. The new social features like challenges and Game Center integration are particularly exciting. If you play regularly—whether you use Apple Arcade or not—the app will offer you a great deal of convenience and clarity. And if you've previously played alone, the Games app might be just the thing for you to get started with collaborative gaming. (Image: Apple)
