With iOS 26, Apple introduced many small improvements that are noticeable in everyday use but can easily be overlooked. Some of these were mentioned at the keynote, and many others were simply added quietly. Here's a complete summary of all the known small changes in iOS 26 so you know exactly what's happening.
The big features usually get the most attention. But it's often the small changes that really make a difference in everyday life. iOS 26 brings a whole host of such features—some subtle, some directly noticeable. Apple has made improvements in many areas without completely turning everything upside down. If you'd like to know exactly what your iPhone can do with the new update, you can get the complete overview here.
Home bar becomes more discreet
The home bar, which reminds you to swipe up when launching an app, is barely visible in iOS 26. It only appears briefly and then disappears again. This creates a cleaner look.
Weather even without internet
A new feature is the ability to receive weather data via satellite. This means you can get weather information even if you don't have a cellular or Wi-Fi connection. This feature isn't yet active in the current beta version, but should be available soon.
Customizable snooze duration for alarms
The length of the snooze function can now be customized. So, you're no longer tied to the default duration, but can choose how long your alarm will leave you alone.
iPhone detects dirty camera
If your camera lens is dirty, iPhone now automatically detects it and suggests cleaning it. This helps prevent blurry photos.
Dictate and spell words
The dictation feature has been improved. You can now spell out words and names if Siri doesn't understand you correctly. This makes dictation much easier, especially for difficult terms.
More targeted text selection in messages
In iOS 26, you can select individual words or parts of text in a message bubble. Previously, you could only select the entire text. Now you have more control when copying or editing.
New features in group chats
Group messages now have typing indicators, so you can see when someone is typing. You'll also see a button to add new contacts when an unknown number appears in the group.
Better filter news
If you have enabled the "Show unknown senders" option, you can now filter incoming messages more effectively. There are new categories such as time-sensitive messages, personal messages, transactions, and advertising. You can set individual filters for each of these categories.
List of blocked contacts visible
Under "Privacy and Security" in Settings, you'll now find an overview of all blocked contacts. This makes it easier to keep track of them and unblock specific contacts.
Wallet app with more control
The Wallet app now offers more management options. You can view and edit your saved payment methods, add new cards, or change details like expiration dates.
New control center in memories
The Reminders app now features a Reminders Control Center, which lets you organize and manage tasks more quickly.
Export notes as Markdown
You can export individual notes to Markdown format. This is especially useful if you work with structured text or want to further process the notes.
Folder structure in Apple Music
Apple Music now allows you to organize playlists into folders. This provides more clarity, especially if you have created many lists.
Browse folders more easily in the Files app
The Files app has redesigned its navigation and display. When you're in the Browse tab, you can now tap directly on nested folders to see their contents—without having to fully open them.
Late Night Mode for quieter sounds
There's a new "Late Night Mode" in the "Sounds & Haptics" settings. This makes system sounds and notifications a bit quieter and less intrusive—ideal for the nighttime hours.
Microphone selection for Bluetooth
If you have a Bluetooth microphone connected, you can specifically select which microphone to use in the settings under "Sounds and Haptics." This wasn't possible before.
Identify energy guzzlers
Battery settings now show you when your iPhone is using unusually high amounts of power at certain times. The apps responsible for this are also highlighted. Charging times can also be tracked there – even on the lock screen.
Stage Manager for older iPads
Even though it's officially part of iPadOS 26, older iPads now have access to the Stage Manager. This gives you more options for multitasking, even on older devices.
Transparency can be deactivated
If you don't like the new glass look of iOS 26, you can turn off transparency under "Accessibility." This will make the design more simple and with more contrast.
More choice for background noise
iOS 26 expands the selection of background sounds. New ones include airplane sounds, rain on the roof, a quiet night, and a fire. These sounds can be used for relaxation or concentration.
iOS 26 availability
Currently, iOS 26 is only available to developers. A public beta version is scheduled for release in July. The final release is planned for September, as usual—along with the new iPhones.
