Apple TV continues its Monsterverse saga with the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. A new teaser confirms the release date and introduces Titan X, a new central Titan. The series returns globally on Friday, February 27, 2026, and continues the story of Monarch, Godzilla, and Kong.
„"Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" is the foundation of the Monsterverse on Apple TV. Following a successful first season, Apple TV is strategically expanding the brand. Season two is part of a long-term deal with Legendary Entertainment, which also includes several spin-offs. The series remains closely tied to the events and characters of the Monsterverse films.
Season 2: Start, scope and release
The second season consists of 10 episodes. It premieres on February 27, 2026, with episode one. A new episode will then be released every Friday until the season finale on May 1, 2026. The released teaser serves as the first preview of the content and focuses primarily on the new Titan.
Titan X is at the center of the new plot
Titan X is the major new element of the second season. It is described as an ancient power rising from the depths, bringing not only destruction but being considered a living catastrophe. Its bioluminescent appearance, unclear origins, and unknown purpose make it the central mystery of the season. Titan X represents a threat greater than anything Monarch has faced before.
Return of Kong and Godzilla
Alongside Titan X, Kong and Godzilla are also part of the second season. Apple TV has thus significantly expanded its cast of titans. The series continues to combine this monumental scale with a human perspective and features familiar characters from season one.
The main cast returns, including Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett, and Anders Holm. Guest stars include Takehiro Hira, Amber Midthunder, Curtiss Cook, Cliff Curtis, Dominique Tipper, and Camilo Jiménez Varón.
A brief recap and new locations
Season one focused on two siblings who uncovered their family's connection to the secret organization Monarch. Lee Shaw, portrayed by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell, played a central role in two timelines.
Season two picks up where the first season left off, focusing on the fate of Monarch and the world. The story takes place on Skull Island and in a new, mysterious village, near which a Titan rises from the sea. Past decisions have direct repercussions in the present, as alliances and rivalries continue to shift.
Production and Monsterverse future on Apple TV
The series comes from Legendary Television. It is produced by, among others, Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, and Chris Black, who serves as showrunner for season two. The collaboration with Toho secures the use of the Godzilla rights and continues the long-standing film tradition.
Alongside the second season, Apple TV is planning further Monsterverse series. These include an as-yet-untitled prequel series about the young Lee Shaw, in which Wyatt Russell will again be involved. This will strategically expand the Monsterverse on Apple TV.
