The iPhone 17 series and the iPhone Air are currently in the spotlight. But attention is already turning to the iPhone 18 Pro. Initial leaks raise intriguing questions: Will Apple stick with the familiar design, will the next Pro model feature a transparent back detail, and what about the chip and cooling system?

Rumors about the iPhone 18 Pro primarily originate from Digital Chat Station, a well-known leaker with more than three million followers on Weibo. In the past, many of his statements have proven accurate, although not all details have been confirmed. This information is supplemented by reports from the Taiwanese Commercial Times. Since there is still about a year until the release, the current information should be viewed as a snapshot – the final device may still show significant differences.

Design and camera module

The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to have a core design similar to the iPhone 17 Pro. According to leaks, Apple will stick with the so-called plateau mount for the camera system, which houses three lenses in a triangular arrangement. No major visual changes are expected.

display sizes

The displays also appear to be staying the same. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to be 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max is planned for 6.9 inches. Apple has been using these sizes since the iPhone 16 series and appears to be sticking with them in the next generation.

Transparent MagSafe area

A possible transparent area on the back is considered a visual highlight. The Ceramic Shield section, where MagSafe is integrated, is said to have a slightly transparent design on the iPhone 18 Pro. How exactly Apple intends to implement this effect technically remains open, but is already causing discussion.

Cooling with steam chamber

For heat dissipation, Apple is expected to use a cooling system with a stainless steel vapor chamber. The iPhone 17 Pro already uses a vapor chamber laser-welded into the aluminum unibody casing. It's unclear whether additional metals will be used in the successor. Initial teardowns of the 17 Pro models could provide more detailed insights.

New A20 Pro chip and Apple C2 modem

Under the hood, Apple is apparently planning its next big step. The iPhone 18 Pro is said to be equipped with the A20 Pro chip, produced using TSMC's latest 2nm process. In addition, the device will use Apple's own C2 modem instead of Qualcomm components. Both changes have been speculated for some time and could bring a significant leap in performance and energy efficiency.

Front design with smaller Dynamic Island

The front panel could also receive minor adjustments. Another leaker reports that the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro will be smaller. However, there are no plans for Face ID under the display, despite rumors of such a feature popping up regularly.

Uncertainty of early rumors

As with all early leaks, not all details will necessarily become part of the final product. Digital Chat Station and other sources have often been correct, but have also published miscalculations. Since Apple typically works with multiple prototypes, design and hardware decisions are subject to change.

iPhone 18 Pro: What we've seen so far

Current information paints a first picture of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro. A familiar design with a platform camera, the usual display sizes, a transparent MagSafe area, and an enhanced vapor chamber for improved cooling are all on the cards. Added to that are the new A20 Pro chip using the 2nm process and the Apple C2 modem. A smaller Dynamic Island is expected on the front, while Face ID under the display is unlikely to be an issue yet. Until the official unveiling, it remains to be seen which of these rumors will become reality – but one thing is certain: the iPhone 18 Pro is already generating a lot of buzz. (Image: Apple)
