Apple is preparing a major upgrade to Siri for 2026. The voice assistant will be equipped with a new search function, internally called "World Knowledge Answers." Apple intends to use this to create a direct alternative to ChatGPT and Google's AI search results. The new version of Siri is based on large-scale language models and features a significantly expanded architecture that combines search, personalization, and interaction.
Since its launch in 2011, Siri has evolved steadily, but often fell short of expectations. Many users found Siri too limited compared to competitors like Alexa or Google Assistant. Apple has therefore decided on a comprehensive redesign. With a new technical foundation, Siri will become not only more intelligent but also more versatile—with real access to global knowledge, greater personalization, and expanded capabilities within the Apple ecosystem.
World Knowledge: Siri becomes an answer engine
The new feature is scheduled to launch in early 2026 and will provide information on general search queries. Unlike before, Siri will not simply present links, but will offer structured answers that can include text, images, videos, and even local landmarks. This will transform Siri into an answer engine that summarizes content and provides a transparent overview, according to Bloomberg . Initially, the feature will be limited to Siri, but in the long term, Apple could also integrate it into Spotlight or Safari. There is also discussion about developing a separate chatbot app.
The technical new beginning
Apple had to redevelop Siri from scratch. The first generation of the architecture failed to deliver the desired results. Therefore, a second generation was created, based entirely on large-scale language models. This consists of three systems: a planner that interprets inputs, a search engine that searches both the internet and local data, and a summarizer that formulates the final response. Craig Federighi, Apple's head of software development, explained internally back in August that the new architecture not only enables the announced features, but also delivers a significantly more comprehensive upgrade than originally envisioned.
Partnerships and data protection
Apple is reviewing which areas its own models will be used and where external partners will play a role. A formal agreement has been reached with Google for the summarization functions. Apple is testing the Gemini AI model, which could be integrated into Siri in the future. Parallel tests are underway with models from Anthropic and its own Foundation models. The separation of responsibilities is crucial: Personal data such as emails and messages are processed exclusively with Apple's own models. This ensures that customer data is not shared with third parties.
Siri update schedule
The rollout will be staggered. The new version of Siri is scheduled to be released with iOS 26.4 in March 2026. In addition to World Knowledge search, it will also integrate the personalized features originally planned for iOS 18. This will enable Siri to include personal information such as messages or emails in replies, respond to on-screen content, and work more deeply within apps. A visual redesign of Siri will follow later in 2026. Additionally, a new health feature will be introduced, forming the core of a planned paid health subscription service.
Siri as central assistant
With its new architecture and expanded features, Siri is evolving from a voice assistant into a comprehensive knowledge and organization tool. The combination of AI-powered search, personalization, and integration into the entire Apple ecosystem makes Siri a crucial building block in Apple's strategy.
Siri: From voice assistant to digital organizer
Siri will undergo fundamental changes in 2026. The "World Knowledge Answers" answer engine will bring the voice assistant up to the level of modern AI systems, combining search functions with a clear, understandable presentation. Supported by external models like Google's Gemini, but with a strict focus on data protection, Apple is committed to a balance between innovation and security. With the introduction of these new features, Siri will become a tool that not only answers questions but also provides organized and personalized support for digital life.
