In iOS 27, the new Siri appears as a glowing, elongated shape growing out of Dynamic Island. Its oval shape has a very specific reason – and on future iPhones, it could become a perfect circle.
With the redesign of Siri AI, Apple also overhauled the assistant's visual appearance. Instead of the previous glow effect that traced the edges of the screen, the new Siri appears directly from within the Dynamic Island on the iPhone. A rumor now connects this design to the upcoming iPhone generation – and suggests that the appearance could change there.
How Siri appears in iOS 27
In iOS 27, when the Assistant is activated, a swirling, pill-shaped light source emerges from the Dynamic Island. Unlike the previous light ring at the edge of the display, this design conceals the actual cutouts in the screen – just like the other animations of the Dynamic Island, which mask the front camera and sensors.
Everywhere else, Siri is already a circle
It's noticeable that Apple depicts the assistant as round in most other places. This applies to the icon of the new, standalone Siri app, as well as to the promotional material surrounding iOS 27 and the original appearance on iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro. The elongated shape on the iPhone thus seems less like a design choice and more like a workaround necessitated by the current dynamic island hardware.
Why the shape depends on the Dynamic Island
This is precisely where the speculation begins. Rumors are circulating that the iPhone 18 Pro will have a narrower Dynamic Island. X user @MichalLangmajer connected the two points, noting that the unusual shape of the Siri display is explained by the notch. On an iPhone 18 with the presumably smaller cutout, this could result in a perfect circle.
If you were wondering why the iOS 27 Siri AI has such a weird shape, it's because of the notch.

This conclusion is not confirmed – it is based on the combination of an observable design with a hardware rumor that has not yet been confirmed. However, if the Dynamic Island does indeed shrink, a circular Siri interface would be plausible.
A form that adapts to the hardware
This episode demonstrates how closely Apple integrates software design and device hardware: The same Siri can look different depending on the notch in the display. Whether the oval display will become a circle on future iPhones depends less on iOS 27 itself than on how small Apple makes the Dynamic Island in the future. (Image: Apple)
