The foldable iPhone has never been seen so clearly before: New dummy images show the presumably final design of the iPhone Ultra in detail – and suggest that Apple will only offer the device in a single color at launch.
With just a few months to go before its expected market launch, clues are mounting about the appearance of Apple's first foldable phone, which is expected to be released as the iPhone Ultra. New, unusually detailed images of a dummy model are currently circulating, revealing the design more clearly than anything seen before. Such dummies are non-functional prototypes primarily used by accessory manufacturers: they need precise templates to mass-produce cases and other accessories in time for the official unveiling. The images fit perfectly into the existing picture of the foldable iPhone – however, nothing is confirmed until Apple officially reveals the device.
What the new dummy images show
The images were published by Sonny Dickson, who had already shown the first dummy models of the foldable alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in April, thus revealing the form-fitting design for the first time. Earlier this week, the leaker "Ice Universe" also shared an alleged image of a white dummy – however, Dickson's photo now offers a significantly clearer view of the design and display.
First look at the iPhone Fold dummy unit. It doesn't look like Apple will offer multiple colors, with white currently appearing to be the only option. What do you think? pic.twitter.com/olMzm6t6Ts

Compared to previous mock-ups, the new model reveals several previously unknown details. The outer display is said to be borderless and slightly rounded at the edges. The camera flash is located below the rear microphone in the camera module, and the microphone itself features a new design with five drilled openings. The front camera on the inner display is positioned in the upper left corner – a location that will very likely influence the design of the Dynamic Island.
This fits in with the existing design line
The remaining discernible features align with previous rumors. A book-like format, reminiscent of a passport, is expected, with a 4:3 aspect ratio – wider than it is tall, and thus unlike any currently available foldable device. The outer display is said to measure 5.5 inches, while the inner OLED panel is expected to be 7.8 inches, making it slightly smaller than an iPad mini when unfolded.
In addition, there are rumors about an ultra-thin titanium frame of 4.5 millimeters, volume buttons moved to the top edge, the removal of the action button, Touch ID instead of Face ID, and a horizontal dual camera on the back in a camera platform in the style of the iPhone Air.
Apparently only one color to start with
Regarding color, Dickson's assessment supports a report from Friday: it doesn't appear that Apple will offer multiple colors – white seems to be the only option at present. This aligns with the suggestion from Weibo leaker "Instant Digital" that a black finish might be missing. Mark Gurman had also previously reported that Apple intended to avoid flashy colors and limit itself to classic tones.
Such a limited color palette wouldn't be unusual. New high-end products like the Apple Watch Ultra and the Vision Pro each launched with only one color option. Apple has also been restrained in the past with particularly significant product launches: The iPhone X was released in November 2017 in just two colors, silver and space gray, at the record price of $999. Gold wasn't added until the iPhone XS a year later – Apple could opt for a similarly gradual expansion with the iPhone Ultra.
Apple is expected to deliver in September
The foldable iPhone is expected to be unveiled in September 2026, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. According to Gurman, the starting price is likely to exceed $2,000, making it the most expensive iPhone ever. As the date approaches, the picture becomes increasingly clear thanks to suppliers and mock-ups – until Apple finally presents the finished device itself. (Image: Sonny Dickson / X)
