Apple has introduced a change to its new MacBook models that affects customers in the UK and the European Union. The current devices will no longer ship with a power adapter in these regions. Several new models are affected, including the MacBook Neo, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro. Customers purchasing a new MacBook in these regions will still receive a charging cable. However, the power adapter is no longer included and must be purchased separately if needed.
The change to the included accessories is not entirely new. Apple already began omitting power adapters from certain MacBook models in Europe and the UK last year. The first step involved the 14-inch MacBook Pro.
With the newly introduced devices, Apple is now expanding this practice. While buyers in Europe and the UK will no longer automatically receive a power adapter, the contents of the box remain unchanged in other regions.
New MacBook models without power adapter
The change affects several current MacBook models. These include:
- MacBook Neo
- MacBook Air
- MacBook Pro
These models are sold without a power adapter in the UK and EU countries such as Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. Customers who need a charger must select it at the time of purchase or buy it separately later.
Difference to the scope of delivery in other countries
Outside of Europe and the UK, Apple continues to include a power adapter with the new MacBooks. Therefore, the contents of the box vary by region.
In the US, for example, the MacBook Neo ships with Apple's 20W USB-C power adapter. This adapter is sold separately for approximately $19.
Apple includes a more powerful power adapter with the 16-inch MacBook Pro. This model ships with the 140W USB-C power adapter, which costs approximately $99 separately.
What else is included in the MacBook box
Even though the power adapter is no longer included in Europe and the UK, every new MacBook still comes with a charging cable. Apple includes either a USB-C or a MagSafe 3 charging cable worldwide.
This at least preserves the possibility of charging the MacBook with an existing compatible power adapter.
Apple is shipping new MacBook models in the EU without a power adapter
With the new MacBook models, Apple is significantly changing the included accessories in the UK and the European Union. Power adapters are no longer automatically included in the package. This affects the MacBook Neo, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro.
The change began with the 14-inch MacBook Pro and is now being extended to other devices. While buyers in Europe have to purchase the power adapter separately, Apple continues to ship a charger with the MacBook in other regions, such as the US.
