Apple will have an official presence at the Game Developers Conference 2026 in San Francisco. Three presentations are planned for March 11th, focusing on Mac gaming, technical fundamentals for developers, and marketing games on the App Store.
The Game Developers Conference, or GDC for short, is one of the most important industry events for the international gaming industry. Apple's presence with several of its own sessions sends a clear signal: gaming on Mac and iOS is to be further strengthened.
Three Apple sessions on March 11
In the session "Built for Games: Explore Apple Hardware and Software for Game Developers," Apple demonstrates how current hardware, operating systems, and graphics technologies like Metal can be used for modern games. The goal is to familiarize developers with the technical possibilities on macOS and iOS.
A second presentation will focus on the Mac version of Cyberpunk 2077. This technically demanding AAA title exemplifies the platform's growing capabilities. Furthermore, a major AAA game is launching directly on the Mac this year, suggesting a shift in release strategy.
The third presentation covers marketing in the App Store. Apple explains how games can be made more visible and what economic potential the platform offers.
New gaming app and strategic direction
With iOS 26 and macOS Tahoe, Apple also introduced its own games app. It centrally organizes games and improves their discoverability.
Attendees of the Game Developers Conference 2026 can view the full schedule of Apple events in the official program.
Mac gaming is gaining importance in the Apple universe
With three presentations at GDC 2026, the unveiling of Cyberpunk 2077 on Mac, several AAA titles including a day-one release, and a new gaming app, Apple is underscoring the growing importance of gaming within its ecosystem. Mac gaming is thus increasingly becoming an integral part of Apple's strategy. (Image: Apple / Apfelpatient)
