The iPhone Fold has been one of the most exciting rumors surrounding Apple for years. Until now, it was generally expected that Apple's first foldable smartphone would be called exactly that. However, a new leak now suggests otherwise: the device could instead be released as the iPhone Ultra.
In addition to the possible new name, the informant also mentions initial price information and other devices that could allegedly become part of a new Ultra product family.
A foldable iPhone has been anticipated for a long time. Apple is reportedly already working intensively on the corresponding display technologies. At the same time, there are recurring indications that Apple might focus more on particularly expensive premium devices in the future.
In this context, the idea of an ultra-class device is gaining importance. This is precisely where a new rumor comes in, placing the device previously known as the iPhone Fold in this potential premium category.
The iPhone Fold could be called the iPhone Ultra
The leaker "WayLabs" on Weibo claims that Apple might launch its foldable iPhone not as the iPhone Fold, but as the iPhone Ultra.
According to the source, this is not an additional new model. Instead, iPhone Ultra would simply be the new name for the previously anticipated iPhone Fold. This leak appears to be a response to earlier reports about a possible Ultra model from Apple.
Apple has repeatedly demonstrated in the past that anticipated product names don't always reflect the final name. Therefore, such a renaming wouldn't be unusual in principle.
Very high price possible
According to the leak, the iPhone Ultra will also be the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever sold.
The starting price is expected to be over 10,000 yuan, or approximately $1,500. According to the source, a fully equipped version could cost over 20,000 yuan, or more than $3,000.
Such a price would be appropriate for a foldable smartphone, as these devices are more technically complex and significantly more expensive than classic smartphones.
Other Ultra products under discussion
The leak also mentions other devices that could allegedly be part of a new Ultra series. These include:
- AirPods Ultra with integrated infrared cameras
- a MacBook Ultra, allegedly a MacBook Pro with a touchscreen OLED display
Both points align, at least in part, with earlier reports that speculated about similar developments.
Apple could focus more on more expensive devices
The informant also claims that Apple is trying to significantly raise the prices of its entire product range. An Ultra series would fit well into this strategy.
Previous reports about a possible Ultra category, however, tend to refer to devices with higher prices and better specifications. They do not explicitly confirm that Apple will actually use the word Ultra in product names.
Beware of the leak
One important point is the source. WayLabs is a relatively new informant whose accuracy can hardly be assessed at this time.
The only previous rumor from this leaker dates back to February 2026 and concerned alleged camera improvements for the iPhone 18 Pro. Therefore, it is currently unclear how reliable the new information is.
It is therefore possible that the leak is accurate. However, it could just as easily be speculation.
The iPhone Fold could be released as the iPhone Ultra
The new rumor brings an interesting possibility into play: The long-awaited iPhone Fold could ultimately be released as the iPhone Ultra and become part of a new premium device category.
With potential prices ranging from over $1,500 to more than $3,000, the device would clearly surpass current iPhone Pro models. However, it remains unclear whether the leak is accurate or simply reinforces existing rumors. (Image: FrontPageTech x Asherdipps)
