Apple has released the final version of its new software generation. iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26 ("Tahoe"), watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26 are now available for download to all users worldwide. The release comes one week after the release candidate and marks the official launch of the new operating system generation, which Apple unveiled at WWDC in June.
The updates bring a new design, deeper integration of Apple Intelligence, and numerous detail improvements that modernize and unify the user experience across all platforms.
iOS 26: Design, intelligence and new features
iOS 26 brings a fresh look to the iPhone with its new Liquid Glass design. Transparent surfaces, smoother transitions, and new color variations for the default background bring content more into focus. System apps like Safari, Music, and the App Store have also been visually updated. Another focus is on Apple Intelligence, which is deeply integrated into the system. However, features like personalized text suggestions, image generation, and intelligent Siri responses are only available on supported devices like the iPhone 15 Pro and newer. Visible innovations also include an adaptive power mode, new ringtones, and faster app animations. Safari features redesigned tab management, the Wallet app supports an order overview for the first time, and Apple Music gets a new radio widget.
iPadOS 26: Improvements for productivity and usability
On the iPad, iPadOS 26 brings many of the iOS innovations, along with its own unique features. A particularly striking update to the mouse pointer is the new feature: it automatically enlarges as you move it, making it easier to navigate, especially on large displays or when working with external monitors. The Maps app and Safari have also been redesigned, while Apple Intelligence provides new tools for text and image editing. Combined with the updated Liquid Glass design, the system appears more consistent and modern.

macOS 26 “Tahoe”: More repairability and fine-tuning
The new macOS is called "Tahoe" and brings not only design tweaks but also an important technical innovation: Repair Assistant. This tool simplifies the replacement of components such as batteries, displays, or sensors and automatically calibrates replacement parts. This eliminates the previous dependence on authorized service partners – a significant step toward greater repair friendliness. Furthermore, icons such as the Finder and Migration Assistant have been redesigned. AirPods can be registered for beta firmware updates directly on the Mac, and the new Recovery Assistant can automatically detect and fix startup problems. Apple Intelligence is also a central component on the Mac when using a model with Apple Silicon.
watchOS 26: Focus on Health
With watchOS 26, the Apple Watch is moving even more toward being a health device. A new feature is the high blood pressure alert, originally planned only for the current Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3, but now also available on Series 9 and later, as well as the Ultra 2. The feature uses the optical heart rate sensor to detect high blood pressure over a 30-day period and will be available in over 150 countries worldwide. There's also a new workout buddy with voice prompts, a modernized training app, and improved music features.
tvOS 26: New design and entertainment features
tvOS 26 brings the Liquid Glass design to the big screen for the first time. The Apple TV app now features artistic movie posters, making it easier to discover new content. Switching profiles and logging into apps have also been improved. Apple Music Sing now supports connecting to the iPhone, allowing it to be used as a microphone. With Lyrics Translation and Pronunciation, you can sing along to songs even in foreign languages. FaceTime on Apple TV has been enhanced and supports additional languages for live captions.
visionOS 26: Spatial experiences for the Apple Vision Pro
The update for the Vision Pro significantly expands the capabilities of visionOS. Widgets can now be spatially placed and personalized within the environment. Personas appear more natural, realistic, and expressive thanks to improved rendering technologies. Also new are spatial scenes, which add depth to photos using generative AI, enabling realistic 3D views. Developers receive additional APIs to expand their own applications with spatial computing. Of interest to gamers: visionOS 26 now also supports the PlayStation VR2 Sense Controller.

AirPods: Live translation and new features
Alongside the system updates, Apple has also equipped the AirPods with new features. The AirPods Pro 2 and the AirPods 4 with ANC receive the new Live Translation feature, previously introduced with the AirPods Pro 3, via firmware. A gesture on either AirPod stem allows for real-time translation of conversations. The feature requires an iPhone 15 Pro or later running iOS 26 and launches with five languages: English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. More languages will follow later.

These updates include security improvements. All updates are now available for download worldwide. iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 can be installed as usual via Software Update in Settings. macOS 26 "Tahoe" is being rolled out via System Preferences, while watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26 are available on devices via the corresponding update functions.

iOS 26 & Co.: A big step for the entire Apple ecosystem
The release of iOS 26 and the accompanying updates marks an important milestone for Apple. The combination of a new design, Apple Intelligence, and practical detail improvements demonstrates that the systems are not only modernized but also more focused on everyday usability.
