iOS 27: Home screen gets undo and redo function

Apple is working on a small but practical improvement for iOS 27: Changes to the home screen can now be undone or redoed using the undo and redo buttons. The Liquid Glass effect will also be more finely adjustable.

iOS 27 is not expected to be a year of major upheavals – according to several reports, Apple is focusing on stability, performance, and the long-awaited Siri overhaul. Nevertheless, there are some smaller but noticeable improvements. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is working on an undo and redo function for the home screen, which should make customizing icons and widgets significantly more convenient.

Anyone who regularly rearranges their iPhone home layout knows the problem: you move a few icons, add a widget – and suddenly the arrangement isn't what you wanted. Until now, the only solution in such cases has been a manual reset. iOS 27 aims to change that and introduce a simple solution that has been familiar from Mac and desktop software for decades.

Undo and redo directly in the customization menu

According to Gurman, the new feature will be found in the existing customization menu, which opens with a long press on the home screen. Currently, iOS displays four options in the upper left corner: Add Widget, Customize, Edit Background, and Edit Pages. In iOS 27, buttons for Undo and Redo are expected to appear as well.

Specifically, this means that if you drag an icon to a new position and aren't happy with the result, you can undo the action with a tap. Conversely, a reversed action can also be redone. It's currently unclear how far back the undo history will go – but presumably far enough to undo multiple changes in succession.

Liquid Glass becomes more finely adjustable

In addition to undo and redo, Apple is working on another small convenience feature: a new Liquid Glass slider. Currently, the Liquid Glass effect can only be set to two variations – "Clear" or "Tinted." With iOS 27, users will be able to fine-tune the effect to adjust it precisely to their own taste.

This change is part of the overarching strategy to further expand the Liquid Glass optics introduced in iOS 26 and give users more control over them.

iOS 27: Focus remains on stability and performance

The minor improvements fit the general character of iOS 27: Apple has already indicated that this update focuses primarily on software quality, improved stability, and optimized battery life. This means fewer new features than in previous years, but a more polished overall experience.

The major exception is Siri, which is finally getting its long-promised overhaul with iOS 27. This is complemented by smaller features such as Apple's leaked Wallet extension for physical passports and the new visual intelligence capabilities.
