Apple is apparently working more intensively on its own AI infrastructure than previously apparent. New information suggests that the company will begin producing its own AI server chips this year. Even if widespread deployment isn't planned until the coming years, this clearly demonstrates a strategic shift towards greater independence in the AI field.
In the public eye, Apple is not currently considered a pioneer in artificial intelligence. The launch of new AI features has been cautious and has been met with some criticism. At the same time, Apple is securing important foundations behind the scenes. A recently announced deal with Google is intended to safeguard future AI capabilities. In parallel, Apple is pushing ahead with the development of its own server chips for AI applications. This combination aligns with the company's long-term strategy.
Apple's entry into its own AI server chips
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple's in-house developed AI server chips are expected to enter mass production in the second half of 2026. The associated data centers are slated to be built and operational starting in 2027. This suggests that Apple anticipates a significant increase in demand for AI features on its devices from that point onward.
Interestingly, the chips appear to be in small-scale production this year. It is assumed that these early versions will initially be used in existing Apple data centers. This will allow Apple to gain practical experience before expanding the large-scale infrastructure.
Why custom AI server chips are important for Apple
Rumors have circulated for years that Apple is working on AI-focused server-class chips. The latest information provides a concrete timeframe for the first time. In-house AI server chips could give Apple more control over performance, costs, and energy efficiency. Furthermore, the company would become less dependent on external chip suppliers.
This is a crucial factor, especially in the field of AI. Computing power, scalability, and data privacy play a central role here. Apple's own hardware allows it to coordinate its software and services even more closely.
The silicon team as a key strength

According to Kuo, new Apple data centers are scheduled to go online in 2027. This infrastructure is crucial for offering AI services on a larger scale. At the same time, it strengthens Apple's control over data processing and privacy, a key issue for the company for years.
By then, the first AI server chips should be deployed in existing data centers. This will allow Apple to test and optimize the technology before a large-scale rollout begins.
