Samsung is launching the Galaxy Z TriFold, the first triple-folding smartphone. The device demonstrates how far flexible display technology has advanced. It unfolds from a compact smartphone into a 10-inch tablet, positioning itself as a hybrid of mobile device and work tool. The launch marks a significant moment for Samsung and for everyone following the evolution of the foldable market.

For years, Samsung has been developing new form factors and has already set standards with the Galaxy Z and Flip series. With the Galaxy Z TriFold, the company takes it a step further and solves a long-standing problem in the industry: a device that is simultaneously portable, powerful, and productive. This combination is made possible by the tri-fold design. The TriFold is aimed at people who need more screen space on the go but don't want to carry a large tablet.

Triple-folding design

The Galaxy Z TriFold is a smartphone that unfolds into two sections. Its design folds inwards. In its compact state, it looks like a normal smartphone. When fully opened, it reveals a 10-inch display. The heart of the mechanism is the Armor FlexHinge, which Samsung describes as precisely engineered. It's designed to ensure smooth opening and closing. To prevent incorrect folding, an automatic alarm function warns the user if an incorrect direction is detected.

When unfolded, the device is 3.9 millimeters thin. Despite this slim profile, it houses high-end hardware, including the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which leads the new Android flagship segment. A 200-megapixel main camera is also included. The battery has a capacity of 5600 mAh. Samsung uses a three-cell design, with a battery unit in each of the three segments. This improves the device's balance and provides a more consistent power supply.

The new display concept

The 10-inch inner screen utilizes a display technology that allows it to fold twice, keeping the device pocket-sized when closed. The screen surface features a shock-absorbing layer with a reinforced coating. Up to three apps can be opened simultaneously on the large screen, making the device clearly designed for multitasking.

In addition to the internal display, there's a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen on the outside. It operates at 120 Hz and reaches a peak brightness of 2600 nits. The internal display has a brightness of 1600 nits. The camera setup consists of a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. For selfies, there are two 10-megapixel cameras with an f/2.2 aperture: one on the cover and one in the main display.

Storage and equipment

Samsung offers the Galaxy Z TriFold with 16 GB of RAM. Internal storage is available in either 512 GB or 1 TB options. This clearly positions the model in the premium segment. The specifications demonstrate that Samsung aimed to combine the features of a smartphone and tablet without compromising on performance or storage.

The market launch

The device will launch on December 12, 2025, in South Korea. Following this, it will be released in several other regions, including China, Taiwan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and the USA. The international rollout will therefore be spread over the months following the launch.

Samsung's step into the next generation of foldables

With the Galaxy Z TriFold, Samsung expands its foldable series with a new form factor. The tri-fold design creates a blend of compactness and a large display that was previously missing. The combination of powerful hardware, the large 10-inch inner display, and multitasking features shows that Samsung has clearly focused the device on productivity and versatility. The TriFold demonstrates where foldable smartphones are headed and how a compact device can transform into a fully functional tablet. (Image: Samsung)
