Apple is expanding its long-standing partnership with the organization (RED) and launching a new Apple Pay campaign to benefit the global fight against AIDS. Until December 7th, Apple will donate five US dollars for every qualifying purchase made through Apple Pay. The campaign aims to raise a total of three million US dollars, which will be used to fund health programs through the Global Fund.

The partnership between Apple and (RED) is one of the most enduring social initiatives in the technology sector. For nearly two decades, joint campaigns have raised funds to support education, prevention, and medical care related to HIV and AIDS. Apple utilizes both product promotions and digital payment options to concentrate awareness and donations. This year, the structure remains clear, direct, and based on a fixed financial framework.

19 years of collaboration between Apple and (RED)

Apple and (RED) have been collaborating since 2006. In the early years, the focus was on the well-known (PRODUCT)RED special editions. These included iPhones, iPods, cases, and other accessories in the distinctive red color. A portion of the proceeds went to the Global Fund. The products ensured high visibility and made the commitment tangible in everyday life.

Over time, the partnership evolved, shifting towards regular fundraising campaigns, particularly around World AIDS Day on December 1st. Apple's involvement remained constant, even as the campaign formats were adapted.

According to a 2021 Apple press release, the collaboration has raised more than $270 million over the years. These funds have been used for prevention programs, testing, and counseling services aimed at people affected by HIV or AIDS.

Apple Pay is at the heart of the current fundraising campaign

The new campaign runs from today until December 7th. For every qualifying purchase made through Apple Pay, Apple will automatically donate five US dollars. It doesn't matter whether the purchase is made in an Apple Store, in the Apple Store online, or via the Apple Store app.

The donation amount is limited to a maximum of three million US dollars. The campaign ends once this amount is reached or after December 7th. Participation is straightforward and requires no additional registration or personal information, as the donation is made automatically by Apple.

Where the money goes

The donations go to the Global Fund. This fund finances programs focused on combating AIDS and promoting basic health services. According to (RED), it is a US-based charity that supports projects worldwide that save lives and ensure medical care.

Through the annual campaigns, the Global Fund receives additional financial resources that are specifically used for education, medical assistance and long-term support.

Apple continues its collaboration with (RED)

The renewed Apple Pay campaign demonstrates Apple's continued active and structured partnership with (RED). The combination of an everyday payment method and a clearly defined donation mechanism creates a simple way to support global health programs. This collaboration, which has been in place since 2006, has already mobilized significant sums for the fight against AIDS and continues this year with a clear financial framework and a straightforward process.
