Online shopping can be tedious when product comparisons, reviews, and endless page views take up a lot of time. ChatGPT's new AI Shopping Assistant expands its functionality and significantly simplifies the search for suitable products. This feature brings structure to the research process and delivers targeted recommendations without the need to manually sift through numerous websites.
AI is frequently used to make purchasing decisions faster and clearer. ChatGPT is expanding this application and now offers shopping research based on a specially developed model. The idea is simple: users describe their product requirements, and the AI creates a personalized shopping guide. This feature complements the recently introduced ability to purchase products directly within the app.
New shopping research from ChatGPT
Shopping research is designed to simplify the search for suitable products. Instead of opening multiple shops and comparing them manually, a brief description of the desired item is all that's needed. Examples demonstrate the flexibility of this feature. Whether you're looking for the quietest cordless vacuum cleaner for a small apartment, deciding between several bicycles, or need a suitable gift for a four-year-old art enthusiast, the AI will create a structured product guide based on your search criteria.
How the function works
The assistant asks targeted follow-up questions to refine the results. ChatGPT then researches online, accesses high-quality sources, and combines this data with information from your personal ChatGPT memory and previous conversations. This generates a recommendation tailored to your individual preferences. The result is available within minutes and can be further refined if desired.
Start of shopping research
The feature can be used in two ways. Either a shopping question is asked directly, or the shopping search is opened manually via the plus symbol. The recommendations can then be customized. A wider selection can be displayed, or a narrower search can be selected, depending on how detailed the search should be.
Availability and technical basis
The AI Shopping Assistant is now available in the ChatGPT app for iPhone and iPad. The feature can also be used on the web. A Free, Go, Plus, or Pro account is required. The Mac app does not currently support the feature. According to OpenAI, the shopping search can be used almost without limit during the holidays. It is based on the GPT 5 Mini model, which was specifically trained for shopping queries and is therefore designed to deliver particularly accurate results.
ChatGPT: AI as a shortcut to the right purchase decision
With its new AI Shopping Assistant, ChatGPT demonstrates how efficient product searches can be. The feature saves time, consolidates information, and helps users find suitable items more quickly. By combining targeted questions, current web research, and personalized data, it creates a shopping guide that replaces many steps of traditional research.
