Anthropic has unveiled its new AI model, Claude Opus 4.5. Simultaneously, Claude Code has been integrated into Anthropic's desktop app – including, for the first time, the Mac version. This announcement brings two significant innovations that will benefit both developers and businesses that use AI-powered tools in production.

With Claude Opus 4.5, the company aims to provide a powerful, efficient, and more insightful AI. The previous version, Opus 4.1, was released in August. With this new generation, Anthropic has made improvements in several areas – particularly in coding, agent technology, and handling complex tasks. At the same time, the desktop integration of Claude Code significantly increases flexibility in its use. There is also a major update regarding interaction with the app.

Claude Opus 4.5: Improved intelligence and higher efficiency

Anthropic describes the model itself as more intelligent and efficient than all previous versions – and as the current best model for coding, agents, and computer use. According to Anthropic's internal testing team, Opus 4.5 is particularly noteworthy for its superior handling of ambiguities without requiring direct instruction. It independently finds compromises, analyzes problems in a nuanced way, and even provides usable solutions for system-wide errors when given appropriate information.

An example from the tests: Tasks that were considered practically impossible with the smaller Sonnet 4.5 model can now be reliably processed with Opus 4.5. The testers' feedback is consistent – the model "understands" what is meant and reacts accordingly.

Another point concerns token efficiency. Claude Opus 4.5 requires fewer tokens for comparable tasks than previous models. This makes the model not only faster but also cheaper to operate – especially for large-scale or repetitive applications.

Claude Code is now also available for the desktop app.

A second major change concerns the availability of Claude Code. Previously, this tool was only accessible via the mobile app and the web version. Now, Claude Code is also available in the desktop app, including the Mac version. This enables a seamless workflow on the desktop – especially for developers working with multiple local and remote sessions simultaneously.

Claude Code supports programming, research, and code updates in complex work environments. Direct access via the desktop app saves time, offers greater stability, and enables focused work without switching systems.

Longer conversations without limits

Additionally, Anthropic has introduced a feature that significantly simplifies longer conversations with Claude. In the desktop app, Claude can now automatically summarize earlier parts of a conversation. This frees up space in the chat history without losing important content. Users should therefore encounter content limitations less frequently, which is particularly helpful for longer or recurring tasks.

The summaries are generated dynamically and contextually. The system automatically recognizes which information needs to be retained to correctly understand new input.

Anthropic strengthens its role in the AI market with Opus 4.5

With Claude Opus 4.5, Anthropic delivers a significantly more powerful model, particularly impressive in coding and handling complex tasks. The extension of Claude Code to the desktop app, including macOS, makes its use more flexible and productive. At the same time, the automatic summarization of conversations improves the user experience during extended use. Overall, these innovations strengthen Anthropic's position as a provider of advanced AI solutions that prove their worth in everyday life as well as in development practice.
