Apple TV+ triumphs at the Emmys with Severance & The Studio

Apple TV+ celebrated one of its biggest nights ever at the 77th Emmy Awards. Two of the streaming service's series—"Severance" and "The Studio"—won multiple awards, making a strong statement in the highly competitive market.

Since its launch, Apple TV+ has consistently focused on high-quality original productions. This is increasingly paying off, as the recent awards ceremony demonstrates. With a mix of mystery, drama, and satire, several series managed to impress the judges. "Severance" and "The Studio" in particular attracted attention and won several major awards.

Successes for “Severance”

The drama series “Severance” has long been considered one of Apple TV+’s flagship projects. It tells the story of the company Lumon Industries, in which employees separate their personal and work lives through a drastic memory intervention. The star-studded cast including Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, John Turturro, Tramell Tillman, Patricia Arquette and Christopher Walken gives the series additional weight. “Severance” won three major awards at the Emmys. Tramell Tillman was honored for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Britt Lower received the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, and Merritt Wever won the award for Outstanding Guest Actress for her performance as Gretchen George. However, the series failed to win any of the major categories. The Emmy for Best Drama Series went to “The Pitt”, and Adam Scott lost to Noah Wyle (“The Pitt”) for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Shine for “The Studio”

The comedy series "The Studio" achieved success in a completely different genre for Apple TV+. It centers on Matt Remick, played by Seth Rogen, who, as the new head of the fictional Continental Studios, navigates a tough Hollywood environment. The series boasts a strong main cast including Catherine O'Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonders. Numerous prominent guest stars also enrich the narrative, including Bryan Cranston, Zoë Kravitz, Ron Howard, Olivia Wilde, Dave Franco, Martin Scorsese, Anthony Mackie, and Steve Buscemi.

At the Emmys, "The Studio" won the award for Outstanding Comedy Series. Seth Rogen himself received the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. He and Ryan Goldberg also received an award for directing the episode "The Oner." The writing team of Rogen, Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez won for the episode "The Promotion." Bryan Cranston also impressed with his performance as Griffin Mill, winning the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.

More awards for Apple TV+

There were also successes outside of the two main productions. Director Adam Randall won an Emmy for his work on the episode "Hello Goodbye" of the drama series "Slow Horses."
