Apple TV has released initial details about the second season of the crime thriller Criminal Record. In addition to the official release date, first glimpses into the new season have also been revealed. The series is among the highest-rated crime shows on Apple TV and once again features a politically charged story set in contemporary London.

Following the success of the first season, Apple TV+ remains true to its thematic focus: realistic police work, moral gray areas, and characters who are not simply good or evil. Season two once again centers on Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo. Both continue to star in the series and also serve as executive producers.

Launch date and release schedule

The second season of "Criminal Record" premieres worldwide on Wednesday, April 22, exclusively on Apple TV. A first episode will be released, followed by a new episode every week until the season concludes on Wednesday, June 10. The second season consists of eight episodes in total.

Plot of the second season

"Criminal Record", from BAFTA-nominated writer Paul Rutman, remains a strongly character-driven drama in its second season. The setting is once again present-day London, portrayed as a politically tense and socially divided metropolis.

The story once again centers on Detective Sergeant June Lenker (Cush Jumbo) and Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty (Peter Capaldi). The two detectives remain rivals, but a new case forces them into an unwilling collaboration. The starting point is the murder of a young man who is stabbed to death during a political rally.

The investigation progresses rapidly. The search for the perpetrator evolves into a covert operation aimed at preventing a far-right bomb attack in central London. The series once again explores the limits of police work, particularly when truth, power, and personal interests collide.

Cast and creative team

Peter Capaldi returns as Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty, and Cush Jumbo reprises his role as Detective Sergeant June Lenker. The expanded cast for the second season includes Dustin Demri-Burns, Luca Pasqualino, Luther Ford, Lyndsey Marshal, and Peter Sullivan. Additionally, familiar faces from the first season return, including Shaun Dooley, Stephen Campbell Moore, and Charlie Creed-Miles.

Ben A. Williams and Joelle Mae David will direct the second season. "Criminal Record" is produced by Tod Productions and STV Studios for Apple TV. Executive producers include BAFTA Scotland Award winner Elaine Collins, Paul Rutman, and Capaldi and Jumbo themselves.

Apple TV as a platform

Apple TV offers a program of drama and comedy series, feature films, documentaries, and content for children and families. The service has been available since November 1, 2019, and was the first globally launched streaming service with exclusively original content.
