With Perplexity Health, Apple Health gains a new feature that not only collects health data but also intelligently analyzes it. The connection between AI and personal data is central to this.
Apple Health has been the central platform for health data on iPhones and iPads for years. It aggregates a wealth of information, but its analysis has remained relatively simple. This is precisely where Perplexity Health comes in.
What Perplexity Health offers
Perplexity Health is an extension of the AI tool "Computer" that connects various health data sources. In addition to Apple Health, it integrates electronic health records from over 1.7 million providers, as well as data from platforms like Fitbit, Withings, Clue, and Ultrahuman. Further integrations, such as with ŌURA and Function, are planned.
Apple Health integration
The integration of Apple Health ensures that existing data flows directly into the AI analysis. Instead of isolated values, a networked evaluation is created that combines various data sources.
Personalized analysis
Perplexity Health provides a dashboard that displays trends and key figures such as biomarkers and activity data. However, the key difference lies in its use of AI: answers to health questions are based on individual data.
A single question about resting heart rate can thus simultaneously consider activity, medical history, lab results, and wearable data. This makes the results significantly more context-related.
Data protection
Perplexity emphasizes that all health data is transmitted and stored in encrypted form. Access controls, as well as the ability to delete data or separate sources, are integrated. Furthermore, the data is neither used for AI training nor sold to third parties.
Classification and availability
Similar approaches already exist, such as ChatGPT Health, which also integrates Apple Health but has received rather critical reviews. Perplexity Health is currently being rolled out gradually and is initially only available to Pro and Max subscribers in the US.
The next step for Apple Health
The expansion demonstrates how Apple Health is evolving: from a data collection platform to one that meaningfully connects and interprets information. AI plays a central role in this transformation and is likely to significantly change how health data is used in the long term. (Image: Shutterstock / Wirestock Creators)
