Apple is using AI chatbots internally to increase productivity

Apple has not been publicly perceived as offering a freely accessible AI chatbot. While other technology companies openly market their AI solutions, Apple pursues a significantly more reserved strategy. However, a recent report reveals that the company is already heavily using AI-powered chatbot systems internally to simplify workflows and increase employee productivity.

The internal use of artificial intelligence plays a more significant role at Apple than is apparent from the outside. Instead of a single solution, the company utilizes several specialized tools tailored to internal requirements. These applications are not intended as experiments but are firmly integrated into daily operations. The focus is clearly on security, efficiency, and practical support across various business areas.

Enchanté: AI assistant for everyday work

According to a report by Macworld, Apple has been using an internal app called Enchanté since November 2025. It's a ChatGPT-like assistant that helps employees with numerous tasks. Enchanté is used for brainstorming, software development, proofreading, and general knowledge assessment, among other things.

The app's design is intended to closely resemble the ChatGPT app on macOS, ensuring a familiar and intuitive user experience. Enchanté was specifically developed to meet Apple's workflows and security requirements and runs exclusively on Apple-approved AI models. These include Apple's own Foundation Models as well as external models such as Claude from Anthropic and Gemini from Google.

A key feature of Enchanté is its ability to upload and analyze files and documents. Additionally, the app can access files stored locally on the Mac to better contextualize responses. According to an internal Apple memo, Enchanté serves not only as a testing platform but also as a genuine work tool for daily tasks. The app accesses an internal database of Apple documents and policies and is used in nearly every department, including engineering, design, marketing, and the leadership team.

Enterprise Assistant: Central knowledge hub for employees

In addition to Enchanté, Apple uses a second internal application called Enterprise Assistant. This app, also described by Macworld, serves a different purpose. Enterprise Assistant acts as a central knowledge hub for company employees and contains an extensive database of Apple's internal policies.

This application allows employees to ask questions about organizational and administrative topics. These include, among other things, information about health insurance, vacation days, or technical problems in the workplace. The goal is to make information more readily available and to relieve the burden on internal support structures.

Internal tests for Apple Intelligence

Bloomberg also reports on Apple's internal use of a ChatGPT-like application. This application is used, among other things, to test new features of Apple Intelligence. The existence of these tools demonstrates that Apple is working intensively with dialogue-based AI, even if it is not intended for public use.

Whether Apple will release its own AI chatbot for end users in the future remains to be seen. So far, the company has been reserved on the subject.

Skepticism towards chatbot interfaces

Apple executives have repeatedly expressed doubts about the long-term usefulness of traditional chatbot interfaces. In an interview at WWDC, Apple's software chief, Craig Federighi, told journalist Joanna Stern that Apple wants to create an AI experience that is integrated into all workflows and does not exist as a separate, standalone chatbot.

This assessment, however, seems short-sighted. For many use cases, users find chatbot mode particularly practical. Especially in research, analysis, and creative tasks, dialogue-based interaction offers clear advantages that are difficult to replace with purely integrated background functions.

Apple is consistently relying on AI chatbots internally

Apple already makes extensive use of AI chatbots, but exclusively internally. With Enchanté and the Enterprise Assistant, the company relies on specialized, secure, and highly integrated solutions to support its employees. The reports clearly show that Apple has recognized the value of AI-powered communication. Even though a public chatbot is not currently planned, dialogue-based AI systems already play a central role internally and could become relevant for external users in the long term.
