There's an important update regarding the release date of the fourth season of "Ted Lasso." After Apple TV announced last month that the new season would premiere in the summer, the timeframe has now been further specified. Lead actress Hannah Waddingham mentioned a specific month in an interview.
Three years after the end of its third season, Apple TV is preparing the return of one of its most successful and influential series. "Ted Lasso" has become an international hit since its launch in 2020 and remains one of the streaming service's most popular productions. The now-confirmed fourth season therefore marks not only a continuation but also a reboot with a new direction.
August is the planned start date for "Ted Lasso" season 4
Last month, Apple TV announced that the fourth season of "Ted Lasso" would premiere this summer. Now, Hannah Waddingham has given a more specific hint in an interview with Deadline journalist Baz Bamigboye. When asked when the premiere could be expected, she replied:
In August, I think. May I say August? August! … I think it's August.
Although the statement was phrased with some caution, everything indicates that season 4 of "Ted Lasso" will be released on Apple TV in August. A full video clip of the interview is available on the platform.
Content realignment: A women's team at the center
In the fourth season, Jason Sudeikis' title character takes on a new role. Ted Lasso will now coach an all-female team. Hannah Waddingham refers to this team as "our Lady Greyhounds."
This marks a new chapter for the series. While previous seasons primarily followed the development of the men's team, the focus now shifts to a women's team. This change represents a significant expansion of the existing concept.
Review of previous publications
The previous seasons of "Ted Lasso" were released at different times:
- Season 1 started in August 2020
- Season 2 followed in July 2021
- Season 3 was released in March 2023
An August start would thus coincide with the premiere of the first season. There are approximately three years between the end of the third season and the planned release of season 4.
Connection with the 2026 World Cup
The potential August start falls within a significant sporting period. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place in June/July and will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Should season 4 of "Ted Lasso" actually be released in August, the series would start immediately after the end of the tournament. This timing places it at a time when public interest in football is likely to be particularly high.
Availability and cost of Apple TV
"Ted Lasso" is available exclusively on Apple TV. The streaming service costs €9.99 per month. Alternatively, Apple TV can be subscribed to via the Apple One bundle, which offers a price advantage.
Ted Lasso Season 4: Starts in August and a new chapter with an all-female team
Season 4 of "Ted Lasso" is set to premiere in August. This was confirmed by Hannah Waddingham, who mentioned the month in an interview with Deadline. The series will take a new direction with an all-female team, and the release date is expected to coincide with the 2026 World Cup. This marks the return of one of Apple TV's most successful productions after a three-year hiatus. (Image: Apple)
