Perplexity is expanding its product portfolio with another platform. After introducing "Comet", one of the first AI-focused web browsers for Mac, last summer, the company is now launching an iOS version. The AI browser will be released for iPhone on March 11th and is already available for pre-order in the App Store. With this move, Perplexity further strengthens its presence in the field of AI-powered browser solutions, complementing the existing versions for Mac, Windows, and Android.
Comet was launched in the summer of 2025 as an AI-centric browser for macOS. From the outset, the focus was clearly on search powered by Perplexity and an integrated chat function. Instead of traditional browser use, the AI was intended to actively assist with researching, summarizing, and organizing.
The iPhone version had been announced some time ago. Now it's officially listed in the App Store . This means Comet is now fully usable on iOS for the first time. However, an iPad version doesn't appear to be planned for the March launch, as only the iPhone app is listed in the App Store.
Publication and availability
The iPhone version of Comet will be released on March 11th. A pre-order page is already available in the App Store. This feature allows you to reserve the app so that it will be automatically downloaded as soon as it's released. Comet is currently available on several platforms:
- Mac
- Windows
- Android
With the iPhone release, Perplexity expands its offerings to include an important mobile platform. According to current information, a separate iPad version will not be released simultaneously.
Functionality: AI search and integrated chat
As with the Mac version, AI-powered search is also the focus of the iPhone version. Comet combines search and chat in a unified interface. The goal is to enable research, context, and direct interaction with AI within the browser.
According to the description in the App Store, it's an AI-powered browser designed to function as a personal assistant and thinking partner. It focuses on:
- a unified AI search
- immediate context for content
- Automation on every website
Functions such as summarizing content, planning tasks, researching, or even shopping should be possible directly in the browser.
Automation and work organization
A key feature of Comet is the integration of automation into the browsing process. The browser is designed to take over tasks while the internet is being used normally. This includes summarizing website content as well as providing support for planning or research tasks.
Perplexity describes Comet as a tool that allows users to complete to-do lists more quickly. The browser adapts to individual thought and work styles and learns habits. This is intended to simplify organization and improve the overview of tabs or collected inspirations.
The combination of AI search, chat function and context-related automation distinguishes Comet from classic browsers, which are primarily focused on navigation and display of websites.
Perplexity adds an iOS version to Comet
With the iPhone release on March 11, Perplexity is bringing its AI browser Comet to a central mobile platform. The app is already available for pre-order and will be installed automatically as soon as it is released.
Comet continues to focus on AI-powered search, integrated chat, and automation directly in the browser. An iPad version is not planned for the March launch. In addition to the new iPhone app, Comet will remain available for Mac, Windows, and Android.
Perplexity is thus consistently expanding its AI ecosystem and positioning Comet as a browser-based solution for search, organization, and productive work. (Image: Shutterstock / Koshiro K)
