The new MacBook Pro generation has been equipped with an SD card slot again at the request of many professional users. Apple has now provided more detailed information, which is somewhat disappointing.

Apple's new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models come with an SD card slot that supports the UHS-II standard rather than the much faster USH-III standard, the company has confirmed. The UHS-II standard enables read and write speeds of up to 312 MB/s, which is slower than the UHS-III standard's read and write speeds of up to 624 MB/s. Apple confirmed the SD card slot's specifications opposite The Verge, who noted that the decision to use the UHS-II standard is not "as forward-looking" as UHS-III. The UHS-III standard, which supports the fastest read and write speeds for SD cards, was only introduced in 2017. Some pro users had hoped that Apple would opt for the newer and faster standard on the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro. Apple's MacBook Pro 2021 models are the first in years to offer additional ports in addition to USB-C.

They are equipped with the aforementioned SD card slot and an HDMI port for connecting to screens or TVs. Like the SD card slot, Apple's HDMI port is limited to HDMI 2.0 and not HDMI 2.1. The new MacBook Pro models also have three Thunderbolt 4 ports and an Apple MagSafe charging port. Users can charge their new Macs either via the MagSafe 3 port or one of the three Thunderbolt ports. In addition to the expanded port selection, the new MacBook Pro devices also have significantly improved M1 chips, mini-LED displays with ProMotion and full-size function keys instead of a Touch Bar. If you are interested in one of the models, you can pre-order the devices from Apple. Depending on the features and model, the costs range from 2,249 to 6,839 euros. According to the company, the first models will be delivered on Tuesday, October 26th. (Image: Apple)

Apple devices here aren't test units for a fortnight but everyday tools: from the iPhone to the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and iMac through to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it goes live.
