It was to be expected. After months of speculation, Apple has finally presented the MacBook Pro 2021 series. It promises not only more performance but also better battery life.
The new MacBook Pro models are available in 14- and 16-inch sizes. They feature a brand new design, a much better display and a lot of power. But what about battery life? The new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro devices are available with either the new M1 Pro or M1 Max Apple Silicon chips, which are said to offer the best performance yet from the company's portable devices. The combination of M1 Pro/Max and macOS offers higher CPU performance than 8-core PC notebooks while consuming 70% less power. But what exactly does that mean?
MacBook Pro 2021: Battery life in comparison
Apple states in the spec sheet that the 16-inch model offers 21 hours of video playback, while the smaller version "only" offers 17 hours. They also feature a fast-charging function. This means the battery should reach around 50 percent within 30 minutes. Comparing these figures with the Intel predecessors, the new 16-inch model offers around 10 hours more video playback, while the smaller device offers around 7 hours more battery life. That's a huge increase. How long the battery life will ultimately last under real-world conditions remains to be seen. However, the devices are likely to offer significantly more than their predecessors or direct competitors.
