Apple has updated its support documentation and released new information about the MacBook Neo battery. This primarily concerns the maximum number of charge cycles the battery can achieve before it is considered worn out. This information is important because it allows for an estimate of how long the battery will approximately retain its original capacity.
As with any laptop, the battery plays a central role in the everyday use of the MacBook Neo. Apple uses a lithium-ion battery designed to offer long battery life and maximum durability. However, every battery wears out over time. Apple has now confirmed the number of charge cycles the MacBook Neo is designed for and explained how these are counted.
What is a charging cycle?
A charging cycle describes the amount of energy consumed when 100 percent of the battery capacity is used. This does not necessarily have to happen in a single step.
For example: If 50 percent of the battery is used on one day and another 50 percent on the next day, this together corresponds to one charging cycle, even if the device was charged twice.
Several smaller uses can also add up to a cycle. For example, if 50 percent, 30 percent, and 20 percent of the battery are used on three different days, this also constitutes a full charging cycle.
MacBook Neo battery and runtime
According to Apple, the MacBook Neo has a 36.5-watt-hour lithium-ion battery. The manufacturer states that this should enable the following battery life:
- up to 16 hours of video streaming
- Up to 11 hours of wireless internet browsing
Actual battery life may vary depending on usage and settings.
Maximum charging cycles for the MacBook Neo
Apple has updated its support page and added the MacBook Neo. According to the update, the maximum number of charge cycles is 1,000. After this number, Apple considers the battery worn out and likely needs to be replaced.
However, this does not mean that the battery will no longer work. Instead, its ability to store energy and supply power decreases significantly over time.
What does that mean in practice?
How quickly the 1,000 charging cycle mark is reached depends on usage.
- With one full charging cycle per day, it would take approximately 2.7 years.
- With lower usage of approximately 0.3 cycles per day, the period could even be up to nine years.
Comparison with other MacBooks
With 1,000 charge cycles, the MacBook Neo is on par with most MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models that Apple has sold since 2009.
Older Mac laptops had significantly lower values. Previously, the maximum number of charge cycles was often only between 300 and 500.

The current number of charging cycles is displayed in the "Battery Information" section.
MacBook Neo: Battery life and cycle count at a glance
Apple confirms a maximum battery life of 1,000 charge cycles for the MacBook Neo. Combined with the 36.5 Wh lithium-ion battery and runtimes of up to 16 hours of video streaming or 11 hours of web browsing, this makes the device one of the longest-lasting MacBook models. Actual battery life depends primarily on usage intensity. (Image: Apple)
