iOS 26.2 isn't a huge update, but it's one that addresses exactly the right issues—at least for those who regularly use Apple Podcasts. Apple is introducing three targeted improvements to its own Podcasts app. Two of them are new features, and one is a thoughtful enhancement of existing capabilities. All of them aim to make the listening experience simpler, more direct, and more intuitive.
iOS 26.2 introduces automatic chapter generation for the first time. Previously, podcast producers had to manually create chapter titles and timestamps. This was time-consuming and not widely implemented – even though Apple already supported the display of chapters.
Now the system takes over this step. Chapters appear automatically in podcasts on iOS 26.2. This makes it easier to find specific topics within longer episodes. Especially in podcasts with many segments, this provides a clearer structure.
The accuracy of the automatic recognition cannot yet be fully assessed, as the feature is still in its first beta version. But the direction is clear: less effort for producers, more convenience for listeners.
Podcast mentions directly in the player
The second change concerns how recommendations are handled in podcasts. Often, other shows or episodes are mentioned during the conversation – until now, you had to remember what was mentioned, or at best, search through the show notes.
Starting with iOS 26.2, Apple Podcasts displays these mentions directly in the player and the transcript. The mentioned podcast appears exactly where it's mentioned in the conversation. This eliminates the need for manual searching and makes spontaneous discoveries easier.
This applies to entire podcasts as well as individual episodes. The goal is to make content easier to find – especially through what is mentioned in the current episode. If everything works as advertised, this feature will noticeably simplify the discovery of new content.
„"From this episode": Links better integrated
The third improvement in iOS 26.2 addresses a problem familiar to almost every podcast listener: dealing with links in the show notes. Many episodes reference content outside the podcast – articles, websites, shops, or other media. Often, the message is: "The link is in the show notes." However, these notes aren't always easy to find or clearly displayed.
With the new "From This Episode" feature, Apple aims to simplify this. All links mentioned in the respective episode or included by the producer should be directly accessible on the episode page – without any additional search.
Here too, the following applies: The feature is not yet fully rolled out. Currently, it appears to have only limited support, which is not unusual for an initial beta version. Nevertheless, the direction it's heading is already clear: greater clarity, less friction when accessing further content.
iOS 26.2: Small changes with practical impact
iOS 26.2 doesn't bring any spectacular new features, but it does offer three useful improvements for Apple Podcasts. Automatically generated chapters, context-sensitive podcast mentions, and a clearer display of external links make the app significantly more practical for everyday use.
Those who regularly listen to or produce podcasts should benefit from the new features – even if it's not yet clear how well they will work in detail. The direction is certainly right: fewer hurdles, more convenience, a better user experience. With iOS 26.2, Apple demonstrates that even minor updates can significantly improve podcast playback.
