The science fiction series Silo is one of the most successful productions on Apple TV. While fans are still waiting for the third season, there is already new information about the future of the series. Apple has now confirmed that there is a significant update regarding season 4.
The upcoming third season is scheduled for release later this year. At the same time, it was announced that production on the fourth season has already been completed. This could significantly shorten the gap between the last two seasons.
Apple TV has been increasingly focusing on high-quality science fiction series for several years. Among the streaming service's well-known productions are Severance, Pluribus, and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Silo quickly joined this lineup.
The series is based on a popular trilogy of novels by author Hugh Howey. Due to the positive reception and high viewership, the production was not only renewed for a third season, but Apple also decided to produce a fourth season, which will conclude the series.
Season 3 of Silo is scheduled to be released this year
After the end of the second season, attention turned to the continuation of the story. The season two finale of Silo was released in early 2025. Since then, viewers have been waiting for new episodes.
It is currently expected that season 3 will premiere on Apple TV this fall. If this date holds true, there would be a gap of almost two years between the second and third seasons.
Such waiting times are not unusual for elaborately produced series, especially science fiction productions with complex sets and effects.
Apple confirms completion of filming for season 4
In addition to information about the third season, there was also an important update regarding the future of the series. Apple confirmed in a post on X that filming for the fourth season of Silo has already wrapped.
This news is particularly interesting since season 3 hasn't been released yet. The fact that the fourth season has already been completely filmed shows that production of the final episodes was finished ahead of schedule.
Shorter waiting time between season 3 and season 4 possible
The completion of filming for season 4 could have a decisive impact on the release schedule.
Since production is already complete, the break between season 3 and season 4 should be significantly shorter than the time between previous seasons.
If season 3 does indeed start in the fall, it's very likely that season 4 could be released within a year. The series finale could potentially be released even sooner.
The series is based on the Silo Romance trilogy
The story of Silo is based on a well-known science fiction trilogy by Hugh Howey. The books tell of a future in which the last humans live in a gigantic underground silo. The inhabitants follow strict rules and know very little about the world outside the facility.
What's interesting is how the series adapted the source material. The first two seasons of the show cover only the first novel of the trilogy. This allowed the plot to be developed in detail and the world of the series to be introduced comprehensively.
Seasons 3 and 4 combine events from two books
A slightly different approach is planned for future seasons. According to creator and showrunner Graham Yost, the series will not strictly follow the order of the books.
Instead, seasons 3 and 4 will blend events from the second and third novels. The plot will therefore be based on several parts of the book series simultaneously, rather than adapting each book individually.
This approach allows for a more flexible narrative structure and can help to fully conclude the story in four seasons.
Watch Silo on Apple TV
The first two seasons of Silo are already fully available on Apple TV and can be streamed there.
The streaming service currently costs €9.99 per month. Alternatively, Apple TV can also be subscribed to via the Apple One bundle, which combines several Apple services at a reduced overall price.
Silo is heading towards its series finale on Apple TV
With the planned release of season 3 in the fall and the already completed production of season 4, Silo is entering a crucial phase on Apple TV.
The series was conceived from the outset as a self-contained story and is intended to conclude with the fourth season. Since filming has already been completed, there's a good chance the series finale will be released much sooner than previous seasons.
This ensures that Silo remains one of the most important science fiction series on Apple TV and a central component of the streaming service's programming. (Image: Apple)
