Apple has released another firmware update for the iPhone Air MagSafe battery. As with previous accessory updates, the company is keeping quiet about the specifics of the update's contents. However, some clear facts can be gleaned from the version numbers and the known update behavior.

Firmware updates for Apple accessories usually run unobtrusively in the background. They are rarely the subject of official announcements, but play a crucial role in stable and reliable operation. This is also normal for updates to be installed without any visible notification for the iPhone Air MagSafe battery.

New firmware version in detail

The current firmware for the iPhone Air MagSafe battery has build number 8B32. This replaces the previous firmware with build number 8B25. In the iPhone Air's Settings app, the new firmware is displayed as version 101.0. The previous version was shown as 99.0. For clarity, here are the relevant version numbers again:

  • New firmware: version 101.0, build 8B32
  • Previous firmware: Version 99.0, Build 8B25

The different way version number and build number are displayed is typical for Apple. The version number is visible in the settings, while the build number is primarily used for internal identification.

No official information regarding the update content

Apple does not publish release notes for firmware updates for the iPhone Air MagSafe battery. This leaves it unclear what specific changes were made in version 101.0. In the past, such updates typically included performance and stability improvements, or general bug fixes. New features are rarely introduced in accessory firmware.

Automatic installation in the background

The firmware update will be installed automatically. This requires that the iPhone Air MagSafe battery is charged and simultaneously connected to and actively used with an iPhone Air. Manual installation or initiating the update is not possible.

Check firmware version

The current firmware version can be viewed directly on the iPhone Air. To do this, connect the MagSafe battery and then use the following method in the Settings app:

  • Settings
  • Generally
  • info
  • iPhone Air MagSafe battery

If version 101.0 is displayed there, the latest firmware is installed.

Apple keeps MagSafe accessories technically up-to-date

With the new firmware update for the iPhone Air MagSafe battery, Apple continues its regular maintenance of its accessories. Even without official information about the content, there are strong indications that the update primarily aims to improve stability and reliability. Since the update runs automatically in the background, it requires minimal effort and keeps the MagSafe battery technically up to date.
